To kick off our new podcast series in style, we've enlisted the help of one of the UK's biggest dance music acts (or part of one at least). Joining our hosts Pippa and Georgia, we welcome Mark Richards, one half of dynamic house duo Solardo, to the Skiddle podcast studio.
Hailing from Manchester, Mark and his Solardo counterpart James Eliot are continuing the city's rich legacy in house music. Championed by many high profile names, the likes of Annie Mac, Pete Tong and Danny Howard, and boasting collaborations with Carl Cox and house master Marshall Jefferson, the pair are renowned for the hard work and dedication they show towards their craft.
From producing numerous club bangers, such as 'Free Your Body', 'Tear It Up' and 'XTC', to performing in front of hundreds of thousands of adoring fans across the globe, Solardo have become an unstoppable force within the popular dance music scene.
In this first episode, Mark reminisces about his youth spent growing up in the suburb of Fallowfield. He chats about producing dubstep under the alias 'Basse', his transition to house music and how he met his now fellow DJ, James. Furthermore, he reveals to us what it was like to experience the Hacienda on his very first night out, whilst recalling one of his lesser enjoyed musical adventures - the time he got robbed at a Drum & Bass rave.
Oh, and he also tells us about the time he ended up partying in Vegas with non other than Idris Elba. As you do.
Listen in to episode 1 of the podcast, below. Keep your eyes peeled for some amazing guests and equally amazing stories coming throughout series 1.
