Review of Jazz On The Plaza - Roberto Manzin
Cafe Yukari by Kew Gardens station: what a fabulous little venue. Nice warm atmosphere, excellent food and coffee and very comfortable. I normally prefer a rhythm section with my jazz but who needs one when you have Terry Collie on piano (whose left hand was more than enough to compensate for the absence of bass and drums) and the great Roberto Manzin on alto and soprano saxes ? Lovely choice of covers and Terry's originals, and you won't find a more impressive player on the high notes than Roberto. He puts many others to shame. But he's leaving us for Berlin in the New Year, so get down to the Rose Theatre in Kingston on 4 Dec to catch him (and Terry) before he leaves. Unmissable.

Review of Jazz On The Plaza Graeme Flowers
This was an acoustic set at a really tiny and quaint cafe. Kew Gardens station (I think) is metres away for easy access by tube. Reasonable food and drink prices from what I saw of the menu.
Graeme Flowers and Terrence Collie were on form. Graeme was getting hot from playing the trumpet (it needs effort) and a large fan appeared for cooling purposes. I believe this was the cafe owners idea and I thought it was very gracious. I got the impression the cafe and the owners are well known in the area. They were great hosts.
The gig was really nice and intimate. A little like having two jazz players in your front room playing for you and a few friends. Surely an experience not to be missed? If Ronnie Scotts is a corporate money machine, this gig at a Biju cafe where you can be up close to the musicians was the complete opposite, and perhaps all the better for it.
I'd definitely attend another event there. Recommended.

Review of Jazz On The Plaza
There are many unique things about this venue. The concept is to provide a concert class grand piano ( in this case a Fazioli - the Italian competitor to Steinway) in a small cafe seating 25 people. The audience can experience the music close up without any amplification. Every month Terence Collie demonstrates the qualities of the Fazioli and features a different soloist. Last night it was Matt Dibble on clarinet and saxophone spicing up the jazz repertoire with original tunes from their recent CD .
The tickets are £10. Food is available including Japanese dishes but you can just sit with a drink or snack if you want. Alcohol is not served but you can bring your own bottle of wine.
