Looking back
To say I was looking forward to this event was an understatement: having been away from the clubbing scene for quite some years - got married, had a child, got divorced, only just got life back - I'd been listening to Paul's mixes on Soundcloud for weeks to reignite that Retro reverie.
The venue itself was pleasantly surprising, despite no loo roll or hand-dryers until the 'toilet lady' got there, and the malfunctioning tills behind the bar: stylishly decked out, ample dancefloor space and comfy settees to chill on.
The first two DJs certainly got the mood going, although I would've liked the first DJ to 'tease' us a bit more with his mixing.
Approaching 2am and the music was good, but a little harder than I'd have liked. Yes, we had those old school classics, but mixed with much harder-energy modern beats. Nothing wrong with that - they worked really well and catered for the old v young audience on the dancefloor. However, as original rave/house children - now getting on a bit - these beats almost finished us off. So much so, that we had to leave before 'the main event, Paul Taylor' came on. Would've liked a bit more piano house, bouncy house and vocal house earlier on to make it truly 'Retro' for us.
With any luck, I'll be able to listen to Paul's set on Soundcloud sometime soon...
In the meantime, I'll work on my stamina and hopefully make it through the whole of the next one!
Glad that Retro are back in the area :-)
