Review of Clewes Country Presents Megan Rose and Jeorgia Rose

Overall rating: 4.5 Verified review

The thorn between two roses.

The Clewes Country gig in Blackpool on 25/10/23 was previewed in a chat room on Instagram with the above title by the compère.
He introduced two comparatively well known artists on the English Country scene: Megan R. and Jeorgia R. (Yes, that’s the correct spelling). Jeorgia’s set was made up of mostly of original songs which she features on various streaming platforms. The content features some traditional themes like unrequited or unfulfilled love, songs about growing up and homegrown bankers like ‘See You Again’ which tells the story of a girl’s revenge on an unfaithful lover. This is a new song released on all streaming platforms and gets the heckles up with its references to the ‘plan’ which the scorned lady will execute. It starts with references to the Californian scene and local routes and radio. Its rhythms are convincing and complimentary to the lyrics, a best seller!? Her poetic and moving song ‘Boxes’ laments the days of innocence passing in a young girl’s life with a melancholy feeling: ‘My best friend was my brother’ and ‘I didn’t know how to count my wins and losses.’ Jeorgia co-writes these days and this helps bring additional authenticity to her Country repertoire. She romped through numbers inspired by current US favourites like Dylan Marlowe with ‘Making Lemonade’ about feeling homesick on a small tour and she finished with a cover of ‘The Girl in the Mirror’ by Megan Moroney.
She was followed by a very agile Megan Rose who played her set with a confidence which made the audience swell. The Country scene is unique in making one feel that you’re participating in the loving and dying relationships which are so integral to the songs. She romped through some of her songs from the current ‘Fantasia’ album as well as those from ‘Cowboy with Wings’ and completed her Lancashire appearance by pleasing fans with a duet involving Jeorgia. Such a fantastic introduction to the Country scene for me. My only regret? I had to leave early to catch my train ‘home’.
