Mercure Sydney venue information

Sydney is Australia’s biggest and most cosmopolitan city. It is an essential stop in any traveler’s itinerary. It’s also a superb introduction to Australia and New South Wales, the country’s most diverse state. It is amongst the top fifteen most-visited cities in the world, with millions of tourists coming each year to see the city's landmarks. Its natural features include Sydney Harbor, the Royal National Park, and the Royal Botanic Garden. Man-made attractions such as Sydney Tower, the Sydney Harbor Bridge, and the Sydney Opera House (which became a World Heritage Site in 2007 are also well known to international visitors. The main passenger airport serving the metropolitan area is Kingsford-Smith Airport, one of the world's oldest continually operating airports. Opened in 1906, Central station is the main hub of the city's rail network.

Sydney itself offers a mix of tours, attractions and events that allows visitors to discover this city. Surrounding the city is a wonderland of national parks, forests, mountains, river valleys and historic riverside towns.

The city is divided into North and South by the Sydney Harbour, with both Sydney Harbour Bridge and Tunnel connecting them. Most of the tourist attractions are in the South part of the city, with a large business and residential area in the North. The South part of the city consists of The Rocks and Circular Quay to the North, with the Central Station marking the South. Darling Harbour marks the West and there are many parks to the East.

A shopper's dream, Sydney's Central Business District is home to some of the best shopping centres in the city. One should not miss the chance to shop in the famous Queen Victoria building. This stunning shopping centre occupies an entire city block. While visiting this awesome store be sure to stop at their equally renown 'Food Glorious Food' Department. You can choose from one of their many gourmet delights and then stroll over to the beautiful Hyde Park for a picnic.

There is also plenty of tourist accommodation available to be booked online with Australian Explorer, including the many Sydney apartments which give you the flexibility of self-catering, or perhaps you prefer a more homely feel of Sydney bed and breakfasts. It is the most coveted tourist destination.
