Tonearm Vinyl venue information
At the 17th February’s event visitors to Tonearm Vinyl will be able to explore Scott McMullin’s fascinating and meticulously curated selection of vinyl, featuring many examples of the iconic cover artwork of our times, complemented by original comic book artwork by comic creatives and zines by emerging local talent. The Micro Comic Con will include an opportunity to meet comic creatives from the Sheffield Comics Network who have worked on Viz, The Beano and Conan, The Barbarian , plus Peter Doherty, acclaimed artist on 2000 AD’ s Judge Dredd. There will be comics for all ages on sale from The Beano to The Eagle as well as artwork, zines and prints. Whilst collaborating on the Micro Comic Con, Bambos and Scott shared their first memories of vinyl and comic books:
MY FIRST VINYL – Bambos Georgiou, Sheffield Comics Network
"The first record I bought was ‘Popcorn’ by Hot Butter when I was 12 from the record shop at the bottom of our road in Catford, South London. It was high in the charts, but the shop assistant feigned ignorance and asked me to sing it and then asked me to sing it again for the other shop assistant to see if he recognised it before he sold it to me! I am glad to say that my tastes quickly developed to bands like T Rex and I was never asked to sing ‘Ride A White Swan’.
MY FIRST COMIC – Scott McMullin, Tonearm Vinyl, Sheffield
“When I was seven I read my first comic ‘Archie’ part of the ‘Archies Comics’ series, which I bought from the corner shop in the city I grew up in, Sydney in Novia Scotia, Canada. It had a stack of old ones so I’d buy a bundle and I really got into them, reading one every night before going to bed. There is a connection with vinyl because ‘The Archies’ virtual band recorded the original version of ‘Sugar Sugar’ and I’ve just watched ‘Riverdale’ on Netflix featuring characters from ‘The Archies’ but with a dark, adult twist. â€
