New album FANG BANG out Sept 11th through Rykodisc International!

For his second solo outing, shock rocker Wednesday 13 wanted to try a different tactic than his previous release, 2005’s Transylvania 90210. "We toured all of last year, actually until December. I basically started writing as soon as we got home from the tour. Originally, I wrote about 30 songs, and realized I didn't like any of ‘em [laughs]. It was a little heavier and I was just sitting here one day, and going, ‘This isn't really what I want to do right now. I'm just going to start from scratch again.’ So I put all those songs to rest, and for the next two weeks, every day, I would stay up until 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning, and write new songs."

After a mere two weeks, the former Murderdolls frontman had enough tracks in the can for his next platter, Fang Bang (Wednesday 13’s first release for Rykodisc). Unlike some artists that nitpick for months on end during the songwriting process, Wednesday 13 took the complete opposite approach. "To me, it’s always the easier stuff that turns out to be the best stuff - that's how I've written in the past over the years." And in the studio, he also followed the same breakneck workpace. "It was probably one of the quickest things I've done in quite a while. I basically went in, started tracking, and finished the entire record in about five days." Self-produced, the album was mixed by Bob Marlette (Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath).

Wednesday 13 originally emerged during the late ‘90s as the frontman for Frankenstein Drag Queens, an oft-overlooked horror-laced metal band that managed to issue five full-lengths between 1996- 2001. The early 21st century saw the singer unite with Slipknot’s Joey Jordison in the Murderdolls, a group that issued a lone release, 2002’s Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls, before Wednesday 13 launched a solo career.

Interestingly, Fang Bang harkens back to Wednesday 13’s earlier work. "Compared to my last record, I think it's totally different, but I also think this is pretty much a combination of everything I've ever done. It's more of a kick back to my work with Frankenstein Drag Queens, that I did back in the day." The singer/guitarist/songwriter also already has a several favorite tracks. "Right off, I think ‘Happily Ever Cadaver’ is one of my favorite songs. ‘My Home Sweet Homicide,’ and‘Too Much Blood,’ which is a funny saying that we said on tour one day, and I thought, ‘I've got to write a song about that’."

Ever the road warrior, Wednesday 13 expects to tour tirelessly in support of Fang Bang, and recently assembled an all-new band that reunites him with some of his former cohorts. "Right now, I have Racci Shay on drums, who I played with in the first incarnation of the Murderdolls, The Rejects. Eric Griffin is playing guitar on this round of dates but was the bassist in Murderdolls. He’s a much better guitar player than he is a bass player. On bass I have Nate Manor from Amen, and I’ll be playing guitar as well."

Wednesday 13 promises to offer his most theatrical stage presentation yet. "As far as the stageshow goes, I’ve really changed it up from last time. I really try to go out of my way to do a show, where it's not just us up there playing, 1-2-3-4 into the next song, and make it boring. There's a lot of visual stuff going on with props. I am doing the most elaborate stageshow I've ever put on so this is the big deal for me this time. I'm pulling out all the stops."

One thing that Wednesday 13 hopes to accomplish with Fang Bang is to spread his worldwide fanbase (he’s regularly featured in Euro metal magazines) to his homeland. "I've definitely done a lot more touring and work [in Europe] than here in America. So I have a bigger fanbase there but I'm hoping to change that this time. That's why I'm doing a full U.S. tour, which I've never done before. I've only done sections of the east and a show or two in the south. So this time, I’m doing a full run. I'm hoping to spread it out, so I don't always have to go to Europe, Japan, or Australia to do tours - I want to tour where I live." Expect to soon hear a healthy helping of Fang Bang on a blood-soaked stage near you.
