Preview: Soltek with A Guy Called Gerald & more @ The Lightbox, 19/04/13

London's finest purveyors of quality underground dance music, Soltek, have organised something extra special for us this spring. Under the critically acclaimed Upfront series, Soltek have amassed together over 20 years of house and techno to deliver the eclectic lineup that we have come to know and love.

Alongside up and coming DJs and fresh producers, we have well established veterans and masters of their field, providing an electrifying mixture of styles and techniques. With this edition setting out to go at things from a slightly different angle than previously, they have managed to put together one of their most impressive line-ups yet.

Headlining the event is acid house pioneer and British dance music vanguard A Guy Called Gerald. Having burst onto the scene with one of the finest dance tracks ever, ‘Voodoo Ray’, back in 1988, A Guy Called Gerald has been continuing to break new ground in pushing dance music forward in ways that nobody else could. It is unimaginable as to what current dance music would be without Gerald Simpson.

Next up for the night's proceedings we have Glaswegian house pioneer Milton Jackson. With his first EP being released at the age of 19, Milton has continued to show off his raw talent, with a raft of releases on labels such as Tsuba, Jimpster, and Freerange. Now based in Oxfordshire, Milton has continued with his forward thinking approach to deep house, and the results are a joy to behold, giving him the reputation as one of the best in the field. His debut at Soltek is hotly anticipated.

Alongside these, we have the stunning sounds of Glimpse to look forward to. His unmistakable, warm, pulsing analogue sound is a welcome respite from the bombardment of soulless, clean cut, digital sounds that often plague the genre. Now more than ten years into his career, and showing no signs of letting up, we can look forward to an unforgettable set, full of heart and passion that will get you moving.

Also making an appearance will be the Portuguese house producer, and one to watch, Trikk. He’ll bring with him his trademark sound of soulful, hazy, bass driven rolling house that has been gaining him fans left right and centre. 

And finally, we have the talents of local London lad Bobby Champs to look forward to. Since becoming a firm favourite with the likes of Claude Vonstroke, Tiga, and Ben UFO, Bobby Champs has been making waves on the London scene, and is likely to keep the momentum up with a new EP on the horizon. Expect to hear some fantastic unreleased and exclusive material from Bobby.

Since launching their night way back in 2010, Soltek have continued to foster a reputation for putting on nights that encourage a wealth of diversity in their lineups, which in turn attracts a great crowd and produces a night to savour, with a memorable vibe. With line-ups like this, we can clearly see that their reputation is well deserved.
