As the boss of VIVa Warriors, an avid touring DJ and a well respected producer, Steve Lawler is one of the most successfully well-rounded DJs on the scene.

2015 saw another year full of Warriors showcases, new tracks and talent on the VIVa MUSiC label and the release of Lawler's new documentary on his career titled The Art Of The DJ.

The head honcho brings VIVa Warriors to The Rainbow Venues on Boxing Day and then Circus on Saturday 30th January. We caught up with him ahead of the events to ask him about his year.

What's been the stand out gig or club night you've been to this year?

There are so many but as always Argentina Buenos Aires tops them all. We did a Warriors show there back in May. The best way to describe it is like a football match in an intimate room. That's the only way to sum up the vibe, it's a huge 10,000 capacity room but with the vibe of an intimate party. They are without a doubt the best crowd in the world to play for.

What about your best festival memory?

Definitely playing the main stage at the Zurich Street Parade. Incredible vibe and it's all for a great cause which I think just adds to the feeling of the whole festival.

What were your five favourite albums of 2015?

Bob Moses - Days Gone

The Orb - Moonbuilding 2703AD

Lauer - Borndom

Vilod - Safe in Harbour

Levon Vincent - Levon Vincent

What piece of music news struck you most this year whether good or bad?

The news of one of my old tour managers and good friends dying. Very sad news.

What's been your biggest musical let down of 2015?

I don’t have one sorry.

Who has been your musical hero in 2015 and why?

LEON, for keeping his musical integrity intact.

What musical moment or release are you most looking forward to in 2016?

All of it,  there's not anything to mention that I know of, but I always look forward to what's coming.
