Kiki Dee and Carmelo Luggeri 19/12/13 @ The Blue Cat
A friendly welcome to the venue was matched with prompt and efficient service at the bar. There was a good and appreciate audience, which made for an enjoyable night at the small though amply filled room.
The performance itself; consisting of two sets, was a balance of older sounds played with/in different style (with the haunting rendition of Amoureuse a particular favourite) and latter sounds of melodic creativity.
Kiki sounded excellent flowing freely from organ playing to stand up vocalising. She interacted well with the audience enabling a personal touch, attuned with their/our anticipation of a professional, musical performance worthy of her reputation - there was no disappointment. Carmelo played with innovative and interesting enticement, not usually heard these days - such partnership worked to give a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Following the performance, both artistes made themselves available to chat and for photos -being approachable and mutually appreciative of all that were there.
It was/is refreshing to note that in these days of imagery 'star'-making, that those who could, still can - perform with Star quality - in short - and apologies for the pun, showing Kiki still has the Music in her.
