Review of Island Con 2018

I went to this Island con and the first Island Con
I’ve seen a vast improvement on the location for its space! Sadly I think there wasn’t as many costumes and cosplayers as there was the first year but I believe that with next year more people will be comfy and ready for the dressing up. (I also noticed less people taking selfies and groups talking to other groups. Than the first year. If you want a photo of a cosplayer just ask don’t be afraid to.)

Food and drink was good! I did notice the price of a cider went up Sunday but business is business. Plus 2.50 for a pint! Whaaaat bargin! Cheaper than the pub ahha!

But I’m just nit picking.

Honestly I think Isle Con was great. Cool to see all the items and celebrities along with the people interested in their own games, films and anime! Just different feel this year.
First year was a winger (it worked out fine)
Second year was more focused on the goal (it worked out good)

Let’s see year 3!!!

Island con 2018 was good but it would have been a lot better if actors from The Goonies, American Pie and Under the Dome went.

Island Con 2018 was a great fun day out all be it within a school. It would be awesome if it could all be accommodated within one hall but with that not available the friendly atmosphere and easy to use regarding how to book signatures and photo ops was really useful. Friendly atmosphere. Great fun

A convention that cancels its own guests is untrustworthy and deceitful. I will never book for this event again or any others run by the same group.

this year was really awesome. i loved that there were more anime and art booths. the venue was much better this year and the staff were still so kind. definetly going again next year

We attended the event last year at Northwood House and I must say that we found that to be a much more suitable venue. This venue had lots of tiny rooms with exhibitors and this made passing through the restricted space very difficult. The main drawback of the open plan layout of the venue was the poor sound quality in the theatre, where the talks and interviews were taking place. There was a large amount of background noise coming from the seating area behind the area and also people passing by to the side of the stage on their way between rooms. This noise made it very difficult to hear what the guest speakers were saying. The line up was obviously a little disappointing, given that all the major big name guests coming from abroad had pulled out, but there were still enough guests of interest to make the visit worthwhile. The organisers should be congratulated for trying to stage such an event on the island and we islanders should definitely support such ventures, to ensure we keep them. However, as this is still very much a fledgling event, they would do well to try to grow it slowly and concentrate on UK based guests, that do not require such a financial commitment from themselves, as the amount of ticket sales required to cover the cost of flights etc is always going to be prohibitive.

Much better than last year, need more of a social media presence to let people know what is going on at the events, sadly because some guests cancelled and you were taking critism you just hid and deleted twitter account entirely

cant wait till next years one, this new venue was much better than last years, much more space , the only downside was the main hall where celebrities were was very hot and stuffy and a bit too many stalls in that room

First time we have attended. Very impressed. Lots of effort made by all. Good day, only grumble would be that there should have been more coffee stations, perhaps outside. We queued nearly 30 mins in the corridor to the café, then were told it would be another 15 minute wait to get the coffee after paying!! Everyone was having to stand around and wait and it was very congested with people still in the queue, those waiting for their orders and it was also a main route through to the Kids zone. I know the café location couldn't be helped, however if there were more burger vans and drinks locations outside, more people would have gone outside for refreshments. Other than that, it was great.

Great Con and a much better sized venue compared to last year. Unfortunately didn't get to see any of the music.

Excellent event, great atmosphere. Venue was very good and can offer more for next year. Held visitors for extended duration, which was very good.

Great atmosphere,everyone really friendly. A good venue this year although more information about the layout, guest information etc would have been handy beforehand. Lots to see and do,I’m sure it will only get bigger and better,as this was only the second year. Can’t wait for the next one,a great day for all ages and fans of sci fi,fantasy and comic related things :)

First time I've been to island con. Really enjoyed it as very relaxed atmosphere and friendly. Lots to see & plenty of stalls with merchandise. Talks and guest speakers were good but the sound had a few teething problems, especially as it was in the main entrance hall. So lots of other noise too. It would have been good if there had been a programme of itinerary online to download before the event so could plan accordingly. Would definitely go again as can only get better.

car park was full and there were lots of cars therefore struggling to find car park spaces on the streets around the venue.
The venue itself was pretty good but there were some quite open spaces leading to quite a few "pinch points" where people were finding it a squeeze to get past each other, especially those with buggies, wheelchairs or in large costumes. The general layout of routes needs to be walked through a bit more with this in mind.

Brilliant event. Nicely spaced out rooms and areas. Great talks and nice quiet room where guests were available to chat. Thoroughly enjoyed both days, meeting great people and seeing amazing cosplay costumes

On the whole the event was very good. Shame the Goonies reunion never took place, as that was why I'b bought the tickets. Any improvements on next year would be to have the stage for the Q&A's lit up from the front, as the large screen behind the actors left them silhouetted.

Venue much better this year. Able to see more of what people were selling. Not so hectic.
