Review of Ibiza Classics at The Monastery w/ Sonique

The event felt as though the proprietors didn't actually want any fun to be had at the venue. On the day we were advised that we would not be allowed in after 7.30pm. This seems ludicrously early and somewhat arbitrary.

We stood around in the cold for ten minutes as a male, presumably security, stressed whether approximately 15 or so ticket holders could be allowed in as we'd arrived at 7.35pm. It set a weird tone to go into a monastery and feel like as a paying customer we were an inconvenience. In the end herd mentality took over and people just walked in after standing around for ages. We were then scanned in with metal style detectors.

We could hang our coats but there was no ticketing system so that felt kind of a risky move.

A couple were arguing on the entrance into the second doors so again we couldn't go in and security looked like they were inept at deescelating a very easy situation. It was only 7.30pm. I genuinely think the argument was caused by security as doors opened at 6pm so I can't see anyone being that intoxicated at the time!

The room was semi empty despite paying £22 for tiered priced tickets. The sound was shockingly bad. There were a few seats to sit round the sides but it felt like an adult school disco. The sets were badly compiled with repeated tracks.

The bar area felt like a tacky festival with a large metal fence. A strange vibe for a monestary. It would have been maybe silly to sell Hooch and bottles of Smirnoff as a little nudge to nostalgia.

It's as though the people running the event didn't trust adults to respect the monastery in any way shape or form and had predetermined this.

No fun allowed. Meh.

Would never go to this venue again bought tickets early and paid £88 for three tickets then they were reduced to £52 spoke to skiddle who said it’s nothing to do with them so email the event organiser which I did on three occasions never got a reply if you are going to go wait until a week before to purchase tickets

No a good place for that type of event. Weird crowd at the beginning - quite a few rough-looking drinkers, but a lot of those filtered out later. Sonique was underwhelming.
Security staff were very nice though.
Not bad - but far better events have been held at Manchester and Liverpool cathedrals.

Great venue. Very friendly staff. Pricey bar. Would defo go again to see other acts.

Thought it was ibiza classic orchestra night like pete tong. Awful drugs being taken in the toilets so had to use the disabled due to queues. If it wasn’t for my partners anniversary of her late dads passing I would have fought for my money back never again.

We came to the venue with excitement. No atmosphere and I never saw the line up. Highly disappointed. Waste of money and effort to travel to the venue from a different town.

Very disappointed, the venue was lovely but it was half empty, the music was quiet and the drinks were a rip off. We left at 9:30 as we were bored. There was no atmosphere, compared to other events we have been to in similar venues this was like being at a bad party.

The venue was fantastic but the evening lacked atmosphere possibly due to the fact the place was nowhere near full. Way too much empty space. The music didn't hit the spot either, the crowd was friendly but the dancing was a bit half hearted. On a good nigh in a club everybody dances but last night lots of people were stood around, taking selfies and chatting. Shame really. Great venue, no buzz.

The venue was stunning , gorton monestry is a beautiful place , the music was ace , drink prices ok and staff lovely, it just lacked atmosphere which isn’t organiser fault
