My first time at the Bootleggers despite aging years, and trailling all over the country to watch good live music. Courtesy of Charles via a mutual friend, we enjoyed a simply excellent meal of Chicken, Bacon, Mushroom and Rice - must nab the recipe. An old-fashioned (as in great) type of place to see music, which is sonically superb.
The absolutely manic Steve Hill opened the show, a man who plays drums, and combines bass notes power riffs and searing lead solos simultaneously while knocking seven bells out of the crash cymbal with a drum stick gorilla taped to the top of his guitars. Entertaining was not the word for it, barely believable musicianship was.
I hadn't seen Ash for a number of years, since they last played Workington, and was not aware of the new line up.
They certainly didn't disappoint, and while I cannot confess to being their biggest fan, they were very tight, played a long set, and my only regret was the absence of 'Time Was'. My other two personal favourites, 'Jailbait', and the outstanding 'Blowin Free' were delivered with gusto, panache, and a smile.
The first, but certainly not the last visit to The Bootleggers, and I look forward to seeing the very friendly people of Kendal and beyond again sometime soon.

As a Wishbone fan of 45 years I can honestly say that I've rarely seen the band appear to be having so much fun. It's always with a sense of trepidation that you witness a change in line up, but what a pleasure to see Mark in the band. Wishbone Ash do seem to have a great knack of getting the right man, at the right time. Anyone who's having second thoughts, after Muddy's departure, don't worry. Just go see them. A great night, in a great venue, by a wonderful band.

Best Wishbone Ash concert I've been to over the years (first in 1973) partly due to venue.

A truly awesome gig by Wishbone Ash who never disappoint.

The Canadian Steve Hill first provided an excellent support act and he is surely one to watch.

Wishbone Ash, together with their new guitarist Yorkshireman Mark Abrahams, then produced a brilliant well balanced set including two acoustic pieces on Yamaha guitars. The interaction between all the musicians was a joy to watch and was clearly enjoyed by both players and audience alike.

This was the sixth consecutive year that Wishbone Ash has played at Kendal Bootleggers and this was probably their best gig to date. The set comprised of classic and newer songs including a couple of acoustic numbers (never seen them do that before). The classic numbers, particularly from the Argus album, never age and are a delight to experience over and over again.

Mark Abrahams (the new guitarist) has slotted in extremely well and has added a rockier edge to the sound and it's all the better for it. Andy Powell continues to be a brilliant band leader and the backing section of Bob Skeet and Joe Crabtree are solid and effective as usual.

Looking forward to 2018 ... :-)

A consistently excellent band, smaller venues like this are fantastic.
