Review of Brew at the Bog

Some great acts and very easy to access from the main road. A fantastic weekend with the only criticism being the main stage location. It was tucked behind the beer tent and due to the weather there weren't many decent sized crowds. The covered tent would have made a better main stage. Maybe even having the beer tent opening out onto the main stage would have brought bigger crowds.

Absolutely brilliant! Loved Saturday. The festival buzz was fab right from the minute we got there. Loved the layout, the bars, the tent, the gin horsebox, The Spaniard from Belfast..brilliant. The bicycles. The cider! Everything! The Lorelei were brill. A great fun day with 4 of our mates. We all had a blast. Next year is a must!

This was my third year at Brew at the Bog and we had a great time again! Was pretty shocked to see the prices of drinks gone up so much in the space of a year, Brew Dog pints don't even cost that much in Edinburgh! It didn't seem as busy as the previous two years, perhaps because of the weather or maybe the increased ticket price? In the front page of this years programme there's a paragraph about Brew at the Bog being a "no-frills event" that keeps costs down by not hiring circus acts, don't forget your roots Brew at the Bog. But prices aside, still a great little festival :)

Great event with some stunning beers. Fab atmosphere with loads of friendly folk to natter to. The event would benefit greatly from having better food stalls. Local healthy produce served alongside local beers would be a great success. Maybe next year??? I'll definitely be there.

This was my first year at this festival and thought that it was generally a great festival and thoroughly enjoyed myself. However the venues were freezing cold so would recommend that heaters could be installed especially in the barn area. The choice of food was okay however I was bitterly disappointed in the 'Pizza' I was served with as it was a very dry crispy pancake. There could be more stalls set up selling various different things especially gloves which seemed to be in short supply and high in demand from over hearing various conversations.

All of the bands that we went to see were excellent and really variable which was great! The sound wasn't too loud either which was great for me which allowed us to be able to talk to people rather than shout and end up with some nippy throats.

I thought the drinks tokens were a bit expensive as I would have expected those prices at a major festival instead of an independent one, although the different flavoured Gin was excellent!

The toilets were so clean and constantly stalked with toilet roll which was very much appreciate by everyone it seems. Onsite staff were very helpful and the place had an overall fantastic atmosphere! Would definitely come back!

great festival and layout was good, bit of a disconnect to the main stage which wasn't helped with it being so cold

Review of Brew at the Bog

Have loved previous years, but the price of booze really hit the atmosphere this year. Will think twice about going back next year I'm afraid.

Brew at the Bog is probably one of my favourite festivals of the year. It is the perfect size and the number of stages/acts means you don't need to miss any of your favourites, you can just mingle between the three areas. The standard of the bands was top-class and the crowd were in really good spirits - the atmosphere was electric with the crowds bouncing from the word go! The choice of food this year was very impressive, as was the drinks selection. A wee bit on the pricey side but you expect that at a festival. There was much more seating available this year which is always welcome and the hay bales were super-comfy! The weather as usual was cold and maybe some of those wall heaters such as those you find in the smoking areas outside pubs may be an idea going forward as it can be really chilly (although having a good jump around to the bands soon warms you up!). The scenery is amazing and I love the old farm features of this venue - these are what makes this venue stand out most for me. The toilets - normally a nightmare at these type of events - were kept clean the whole day, I was very impressed, and we rarely had to queue to use them. I thoroughly enjoyed this event and will certainly be making a return next year - I cannot wait.

Brilliant event!! £5 a token a bit pricey for alcohol. Music places laid out well. Camping site perfect, heilan loos are great at keeping them clean!! Music mix was really good. I won't go next year unless it's later on in the year as the coldness during the night ruined it for me I am afraid.

Review of Nip: The Big Event at Bogbain

Overall rating: 3.5 Verified review

I'll start with the good points. I find it easy to enjoy a whisky event. All the exhibiters we spoke to were very keen to pass on information/ knowledge / tastings. I was glad to see that nobody was worried about holding to max 10 tastings, which meant it was reasonably good value for the money. As usual it was a good friendly/ social and engaging event and it's great to see something happening in and around the Highland Capital. For me a good time was had by all. Re other reviews re not been able to distinguish between the drams as time goes on. I don't have the worlds greatest palate but find that with water / time and sometimes chocolate between tastings allows for the differences to be apparent. (lack of choc available this year but full marks to Glenmorangie for having some).
Last years event was our first and thought it was better than this years.
Negative points, lack of distilleries from further afield, no live music, lack of transport from town centre (even if small charge was made) and would not have been happy if I had to pay for Glass.
Would still recommend event

We had a very interesting, typically highland, sociable afternoon, met a few folk we knew and sampled some excellent drams. The people who were in charge of the stands were knowledgeable and engaging which made the whole experience more pleasurable. Great value for money and will definitely go again.

Not worth the effort

Sorry, had imagined this to be better than it turned out. Made the journey up from Aberdeen and knew I would be driving home. Had to ask quite a few times what the situation was with drivers, would samples be available to take home. Finally was told I would need to take my own bottles. I arrived at 3pm and things were in full swing, however there was no Glencairn glass included in the ticket price as had been advertised - they where charging an additional £5 for them - so I came away without one. There was no limit to the 10 drams. Which was good if you weren't driving, quite a number of those there had admitted they could no longer taste the difference in the whiskies as they had had more than ten. Not a great selection of distilleries exhibiting. There was a silent showing of the movie whisky galore in a cold barn style room but there was no live music that had also been advertised. As I was taking sample pots home I was in and out in 45 minutes - not worth the drive or the ticket price, sorry NIP I don't think I'll be back next year unless I stay and can take advantage.

Bogmanay :(

Room with tables was away through the back of building and you couldn't see or even hear the music. The bar for the amount of people there was far too small and not enough staff/organisation .
