Riot @ Plug (Sheffield) - 27th December

The south is taking over. Hard Dance titan Riot! is rocking up to the North of the UK to bring back the fierceness of the Harder Faster Generation to Sheffield once more, whipping up a frantic storm not seen since the glory days of Insomniacz and the lunacy of the Howard.  Riot! has been at the epicentre of all that is great about hard dance, sell-out after sell-out at the Brixton Academy and a distinguished reputation for creating the finest in hedonistic frolics for the nuttier raver. Sheffield won’t know what’s hit it...

And what a line-up. Heading it off is Goodgreef talisman Alex Kidd, the hard trance megastar that manages to effortlessly slide across each and every facet of the music with ease and gusto. Rocking clubs across the globe, his peerless control of his sound through Ableton means every beat, every synth and every breakdown is completely at his own instruction, ensuring the dancefloor is entirely within his grasp at every moment.

He’s joined by Hard Dance’s first lady, Anne Savage. Still recognised as the queen of the ferocious beat, Anne has been at the top of her game for years, constantly staying at the avant-garde of hard dance across the globe. Light fingered assassin Kutski, he of the quick scratch and monster range (Trance, Hardstyle, Hard House and even Hardcore and Skranz all make regular appearances!) is also in attendance. Scott Atrill rocks up, as does a superlative B2B set from scene heroes Paul Glazby and Andy Farley, Adam Lab4 with Sam & Deano rocking the support.

Local trance loons Off the Rails ensure that there is an equally driving and euphoric alternative in the second room, flying in Lange to headline. Few do dream like breakdowns and mellifluous beats quite as well as this boy, and with Darren Tate joining him it’s a bombastic ensemble of the best UK trance can muster. Support in this instance comes from Rav Takmar and James Alexander, Gio and Jamie Harrison and Swap and Tom Green, all bringing b2b energy.

The third room sees some dirty house beats come courtesy of the finest groove merchants knocking them out in Yorkshire, with Jonny Hawkins, Adam Sharpe and Alec Mills all at the helm.

*SCOTT ATTRILL*

MEGA

Described by BBC Radio 1’s Judge Jules as “A master of the energetic & high octane”, Scott leads on from his massive debut album ‘Bass Junkie’ with ‘Mega’, and if the first album was a huge success, this will secure without doubt his standing as the real ‘King of Hard Dance’…

Completing his second album in as many years is a massive achievement, spending the past year or so locked away in the studio while also maintaining a gruelling DJ schedule which has taken him to the bright lights of Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Chicago, Vancouver, Sydney and more as well as becoming the first hard / Tech dance DJ to play in Milan / Italy and of course spinning at clubbers paradise Ibiza. The UK too has been packed with events, from superclubs such as The End, Ministry Of Sound, Matter, Air, The Arches to huge one off events from the likes of Goodgreef, Hedliners, Fantasy Island, Transaction, Tidy, the list goes on…

It’s clear to see why Scott is one step ahead of the pack, Mixmag said of him, “Scott is so on top of his game at the moment he is starting to rewrite the rulebook”. Listen to the album & it’s easy to see why such comments are being showered in his direction.

The album concept is big and brash as the title suggests, Mega in every sense of the word, an album that will again raise the standard in the world of dance music as Scott’s groundbreaking sound continues to deliver. The music is hard, funky, sexy, dirty & downright brilliant! Bring on the filth!
