Let’s face it, there’s nothing very funny about February. Except, perhaps that sometimes it decides to add an extra day on.  And the fact that a lot of people struggle to spell it.

But apart from those hilarious factors, this dreary, wintry month is seriously lacking in LOLs.

So it’s with open arms that we welcome a brand new national comedy festival, hosted by Southampton university.

Participants from the student world of funny will travel from all over the country to the maritime city of Southampton to take part in the two day event, which will be held over the weekend of the 26th-27th February in Southampton University’s Annex Theatre.

The first night of the Southampton University Comedy Festival will be a night of sketches and improvised comedy, with live sketches performed by acts from the Universities of Southampton, Portsmouth, Oxford, Manchester and Sheffield.

The night will be rounded off by comedy duo Totally Tom; creators of youtube sensation "High Renaissance Man", a hilarious (no, really) mockumentary following the life of a Bristol University student.

The second night of the Southampton University Comedy Festival will be a night of stand-up comedy, with acts from Solent University and the Universities of Southampton, Portsmouth, Manchester, Bristol, Aberdeen and Bath Spa competing for the coveted position of best stand up.

Headlining the event is Colin Owens, a man described by Jimmy Carr as "genuinely brilliant" and praised by the likes of Russell Howard and Michael McIntrye.

Tickets are an absolute bargain at just £4 for the entire weekend or £3 for a day, but we’d advise buying them early to guarantee your place. Get them through Skiddle below:
