At least one corner of this summer's Wickerman Festival will entertain the masses in complete silence.

Scotlands quirkiest event has expanded the "Headphone Disco" concept to launch the world's first "Headphone Arena". A full programme of disco's, comedy, ceilidh and teen orientated Klubland style DJ's will perform in apparent silence to an audience kitted out with giant wireless headphones.

The Reverend Obadiah Steppenwolf III and How do I get up there? will deliver x-rated comedy to the over 18's.

For those of a more family orientated nature the Headphone Ceilidh band Sshh! (headed up by Trevor Leat, one of the men behind building the Wickerman) will provide a surreal spectacle to onlookers as inaudible jigging and reeling takes place.

Festival spokesperson Sid Ambrose said "The Headphone Arena will be very entertaining for both participants and spectators alike."

He further added "We have entertainment scheduled for all ages, from teenagers to over 18's in the Headphone Arena to cater to the whole Wickerman audience. We are certain that this will be one of the most talked about new features of the festival."

Other new attractions for the July celebration of family fun include a Ho Down Wendy House featuring Glasgow based band, The Chihuahuas, accompanied by a whole host of friends, Firewalking, DJ Masterclass run by club legend Danny Rampling and a military themed Dance Village.

The festival opens it gates at 12 noon Thursday 23rd July and features acts such as The Human League, The Zutons, The Magic Numbers, Idlewild, Billy Bragg, Hot Chip DJ Set, Danny Rampling, Pearl and the Puppets, Bad Manners, UK Subs, Obadiah Steppenwolf the III and many more.

Tickets are priced at £80 online and £85 from ticket outlets and include camping and parking. Children 12 and under admitted free.
