Radio Ones Danny Howard Talks To Us Before His Cream Birmingham Debut

In August 2011, Danny beat off hundreds of DJs from across the UK to win the BBC RADIO 1 - Superstar DJ competition. The nationwide search for the next Ibiza Superstar DJ climaxed in the week building up to Radio 1s popular Ibiza Weekend where Danny had to perform various DJ tasks live on air. He Mixed, MCd and remixed his way to victory, winning the competition outright. Straight after his victory on Radio 1 Danny was whisked away to Gatwick airport to fly out to La Isla Blanca to perform on Radio 1s Line up of superstar DJs at Ushuaia Beach and Space in Ibiza, broadcast across the UK on Radio 1 and to a global audience online.

Since then he has DJd across the world and was invited by Radio 1 to host their dance anthems show every Saturday from 4pm. We caught up with him ahead of his set at Creams 20th Anniversary show at Birmingham's Rainbow Warehouse on Saturday 1st December.

You're playing at Creams 20th Anniversaryin Birmingham this weekend, what can we expect from your set? Will you sing happy birthday for us?

Danny : Yes and Im very excited at the thought of playing for the UKs biggest clubbing brand, especially on such an occasion as the 20th Birthday. My set will be full of brand new big room house bangers as well as the best progressive & electro sounds sweeping the planet right now!

In terms of singing Happy Birthday I think its best not to as my singing voice will create high risk of emptying the club!

Werereally looking forward to it how do you like to celebrate your Birthdays? Which has been your best yet?

Danny :

I think its important to spend birthdays with friends, especially on a night out! This year my birthday fell on a Saturday and I was playing in Cardiff, which meant I couldnt get home to celebrate with the boys, so, I dragged them all to Cardiff with me instead! I have good friends!

My best yet had to be my 21st birthday in Ibiza! It was my first time there so for that reason it will always be special but because of the occasion, the whole experience was a bit of a blur!

If you had to buy Cream a present, what would you buy them?

Danny : Its almost the same scenario as what do you buy the person that has everything?!!

Maybe I could buy you a good team of cleaners for the week because things are gonna get pretty messy this Saturday!

As Dance Anthem's Saturday host you must get sent bucket loads of music, can you narrow your top five down at the moment?

Danny : Always a tough question because theres so much good music around at the moment but here goes

And finally, what can we expect from Danny Howard in 2013?

Danny :Im really looking forward to getting stuck into 2013 because with the momentum of the Radio show building profile week by week, it will give me an amazing opportunity to showcase my new productions and DJ sets. The main priority though, is to carry on building the Radio 1 show as it gives me such a buzz to be able to broadcast to millions of people every week getting ready for a big Saturday night out!
