In the end, it took two to tango. Winners of ‘Next Generation DJ’ (the global DJ talent search initiated by Pioneer DJ, Beatport and DJ Mag and hosted on the music and social networking platform Letsmix.com), are the sister duo, Maya Vanya, from New Zealand.

Maya Vanya first caught the ears of the jury – consisting of such dance music heavy-weights as DJ superstar Sebastian Ingrosso of the Swedish House Mafia, Deadmau5’s manager Dean Wilson and David Waxman, VP/GM of the US premier dance label Ultra Records – with their four to the floor sensibility and distinctly global club sound. “Whenever and wherever we’re on stage with the Swedish House Mafia, our first priority is always to create a hands-in-the-air vibe that simply screams ”PARTY”. Hearing these ladies DJ, that’s just what I felt,” says Sebastian Ingrosso. But it was Maya Vanya’s outstanding artistic potential, both in terms of music production and that elusive ‘x-factor’, that turned out to be decisive. “Maya Vanya swept the NGDJ competition in both style and substance. They have all the right components for becoming a worldwide brand,” says Dean Wilson.

‘Next Generation DJ’ was launched in mid-December. Since then, over 3,400 DJs have entered the competition and more than 350,000 votes have been placed on Letsmix.com, making it the biggest DJ talent search ever. NGDJ competitors were asked to create a music mix around the theme of ”The New Sound of Miami”. Looking at dance music, not only from the industry convention and the Miami Winter Music Conference perspective, but also globally, one thing is evident: the urban music scene is merging with electronic music. “Maya and Vanya show a definite understanding for the cross-over sound of urban and dance music that will dominate clubs and airwaves in the years to come,” says David Waxman.

NGDJ runners up are Jeremy G, a French born, Israel-based DJ/producer whose minimal productions, great mixing and lean, mean promotional skills earned him a second place in the competition. Also, Adeline Supreme, a Swedish/Argentinian DJ
and producer who shows great musical talent and artistic potential. She has got the propulsive tech house sound down, and therefore bagged the third spot with a slick, forward thinking mix.

As winners, Maya Vanya will receive backing to launch a global career by William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, the world’s premier entertainment agency. At club land’s yearly event, the Miami Winter Music conference, Maya Vanya will play a DJ set at the DJ Mag party. Come summer, the NGDJ winners are ready for the biggest stages in dance music, for example, the superclub Cream in Ibiza and the Creamfields festival in the UK in late August. The list goes on…

NGDJ has unearthed new DJ talent with true global potential. Look out for more to come from both Maya Vanya and NGDJ.
