One of the true visionaries of rock 'n' roll, founding member and Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister has died aged 70 after a short battle with cancer.

After learning of the disease on boxing day, Lemmy died at home with his family playing one of his favourite video games.

Pivotal to the band's success and influence, the formidable bassist formed the band in 1975 and conjured seminal single 'Ace of Spades' five years later (catch the band playing at Glastonbury this year).

On the band's facebook they request, "please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.  Have a drink or few. Share stories."

"Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself. HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT."

Motörhead were scheduled to play UK dates next month.
