Join us for an evening of Spoken Word, Hip Hop and Open Mic to help break down stigma around addiction and mental health.

At every Mind Over Matter event we shine a spotlight on a particular mental health organisation to raise awareness for their work. This event is no exception with represetatives from 'Broadway Lodge, a treatment centre for addiction, attending to talk about their organisation. https://www.broadwaylodge.org.uk/

We also provide a platform in the form of an Open Mic for anyone who wishes to share their work, whether that may be a poem, song or story. Everyone is welcome. If you have been wanting to share your work, no matter the level you may be at, this is a safe environment and the perfect place for you to do so. Sign up on arrival (from 6pm) to guarantee your spot.

We have an amazing line up of artists from the worlds of both Spoken Word and Hip Hop including Jaz Kahina, Holly Flo Lightly, Poetcurious, Feven Em, Sophie Macaroni and our Headline act 'Delusionists' who are back after a lengthy break and will be performing all new material from their forthcoming album!

Jaz Kahina

Jaz Kahina is a rapper from East London and a well known face on the UK Hip Hop scene. An extremely versatile rapper that is able to write to many genres of music and can vary her lyrical content from clever word-play to insightful, intelligent and conscious lyrics delivered with confidence and passion. With a sharp tongue and feisty attitude, Jaz Kahina can truly hold her own, contributing to a much needed presence of strong and versatile women in hip hop.

?There?s an aggression and a rawness to Jaz Kahina?s delivery that sets this apart not just from any other British rappers but all rappers in general.? - MTV

Holly Flo Lightly

Holly Flo Lightly is a name that should be familiar with anyone who is used to seeing an MC mash up the dance. Part of the infamous Sika family and renowned for tearing up stages and shutting down sets, Holly has been carving a name for herself ever since she first picked up a mic.

Not so much bridging the gap between male and female MCs, as never even seeing the line in the first place, Holly will hold it down with the best of them as she has proven countless times, both on stage and in studio. There is no limit to her prowess and her hunger for creating powerful music.

She has a video out next week called 'You' and her debut Apéritif EP, is out now garnering praise from critics and paving the way for her debut Breakfast ePiffanies album, coming soon on MBS Records.

Sophie Macaroni

Sophie Macaroni is an artist fascinated by the altered states of time, space, consumption and convention. She has performed at The Bread and Roses Clapham, Out to Grass, Leefest and Landed festival. She also founded Lyrical Dissidence, a movement for artists, activists, writers, rappers, poets and workers.

Feven Em

Inspired to begin writing by a psychedelic trip, Feven EM's approach to poetry is somewhat eccentric. Experimenting with music and variation in meters, her work aims to bridge the space between performer and audience. Hard anti-corporate statistics play a key role in her intricate pieces, which are often doused heavily in shouts for social change.
