Thousands of excited movie fans got to meet some of their heroes from the silver screen at a convention at Doncaster Racecourse today. Dave Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the Star Wars films, joined a galaxy of sci-fi stars and cult heroes as they posed for pictures and signed autographs for fans at ?Knightcon Star Cars and Heroes?. The 79-year-old said: ?I am absolutely amazed at the turn out. I think this is one of the biggest conventions I have ever done and I have done them all over the world. ?Star Wars was an amazing experience, I enjoyed working with all the actors and George Lucas. It was a lot of fun.? He was joined by stormtroopers and a whole host of other stars, including Knight Rider actress Rebecca Holden. She said: ?The crowd is bigger than ever. It was a privilege to star in Knight Rider and it is great that fans still love these iconic shows and get together every year to celebrate them.? Others in attendance included Sarah Douglas, who starred as the villainous Ursa in the first two Superman films and Dan Starkey, who appears as Strax the Sontaran in the current series of Doctor Who. Meanwhile, KITT, the all-talking all action car from Knight Rider was also there along with an original 1966 Batmobile and the bat car from the 1989 Batman film, starring Michael Keaton. Crowds also gathered to watch stage shows celebrating films such as Ghostbusters and Indiana Jones. As well as costumed characters, there was also a range of stalls, a huge exhibition of Lego and film sets from blockbuster movies such as Iron Man. Doctor Who fan Adam Smith, 18, from Sprotbrough, said: ?It is great to see that Doncaster can host such an event. It is a dream for fans.? Dad-of-two and Star Wars fan Roo Robinson, 34, from Maltby, added: ?We?re having a fantastic time. It was great to meet Dave Prowse and some of the other characters. We would definitely come again.? Co-organiser Steve Ormondroyd said the event, now in its ninth year, has grown and grown. He said: ?It is great to see so many people here. This is the first time we have hosted it in this venue and it is bigger than ever. It?s so great to see so many happy people and amazing that so many stars come along too.?
