John Lydon is set to write new songs for the Sex Pistols.

The 54-year-old punk legend - who performed in the group as Johnny Rotten - says the time could be right to reunite with his former band after touring with his other group, Public Image Ltd. (P.I.L.) last year.

He told website Stereogum: "I've really been in a songwriting mode and I can now look back on the Pistols and imagine writing with them. I wouldn't have been able to think about that if I hadn't got the P.I.L. thing going again. You forget the wars and personal hate over time.

"You have to be a real b*****d to make me change my views on you. And even b*****ds like me can be forgiven at times."

While he is considering reuniting with the Sex Pistols - who also comprised of Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock, who was later replaced by Sid Vicious - he recently revealed he "never liked" the group's name.

He said: "I know the lot of the, were all messing around with names before I went there.

"To be honest with you, I never even liked the name Sex Pistols. I always felt like it sounded a bit twee."
