DS Interview : John OO Fleming [UK]

Before his much anticipated performance in Leeds in March, Digital Society caught up with headline act John OO Flemming.

Hey John, First and foremost - where does DS find you today?

Locked away in my studio working almost 24 hours on so many projects, I’m not complaing. I’m loving production at the moment.

How has the last 12 months been for you, and what have been the highlights?

I can't hide the excitement from my recent BBC Radio 1 Essential mix, this has been the biggest highlight for me as it was a platform for me to express myself musically.

You have performed pretty much all over the world now, and no doubt these experiences go beyond Dj-ing - which country stands out for you personally and why?

Every country is special for different reasons. Some countries are known for their huge events with thousands of people, where as others are known for their small intermate venues, and I love them both! It’s impossible to name just one country and unfair too.

The success of JOOF Recordings is well known right throughout the dance scene, which producers do you feel contributed to this success and who are the next hot artists to keep an eye on?

JOOF recordings has survived this long (13 years!) because we simply release music we love. We don’t thrive to be the biggest and release anthem after anthem, we just do what we belive in and that’s why we have such a cult following.

And yourself, how is things on the production / remix front ?

Myself and the Digital Blonde are currently putting the final touches together on our third artist album under our 00.db moniker. I have to say this is our finest work to date, so really excited about this one!! Also keep an eye open for my next solo EP, headed in a much darker direction.

Your making your 1st appearance here at Digital Society Leeds in March, what can the crowd expect?

People get stuck in the war of genres, I’m a DJ that has no care for this, I simply play music that I like, after all this is a job as a DJ. The blinkered genre people are missing out on so much good music, I think my recent Essential mix proved this point as many didn’t realise they liked certain styles of music. So listen to me with an open mind and I’ll give you a fantastic experience.

What are your top 3 tunes at the moment?

I love the cherry ones, really clear your head after a cold….:o)

What would be your chosen career if you weren’t a DJ?

I love cars and was heading in the direction of being a car designer.

And finally, tell us an interesting fact about yourself ?

I’m not a Psy trance DJ!! A strange myth that appeared!
