It’s another starting point for 2008 as firefly bring the year firmly into focus. Lounging around aimlessly was the starting point for most club promoters in the January month, but Firefly have already poked through to February’s starting point with a brace of gigs. And just as their first boasted genre rejectionists Hot Chip against techno stalwart Oliver Ho, the second builds on that formula with a headline appearance from Belgian legends The Glimmers against the Franco Hong Kong duo Technasia.

The Glimmers have been a household name amongst the two point four rave family for the best part of the twenty first century, securing acclaim steadily through epic DJ sets that traverse every genre known to man as well as a fair few that still remain unchartered. Bearing a similarity in approach to a certain other DJing duo also from their hometown in Ghent, the Glimmers have managed to stretch beyond the endless comparisons to 2ManyDJs by blazing a completely different path; check the way with ease they can play festivals with relative ease, yet still saddle up to underground connoisseur clubnights like the soon to be deceased Electric Chair. It’s their ability to pull out the unobvious and the unheard that has made them the discerning party choice, and given them the notoriety normally so difficult to achieve within clubland. This djing acumen has translated brilliantly well to compilations also, finding fame initially with the Eskimo releases (twenty so far, count ‘em) and an acclaim gathering opus for the esteemed FabricLive series. Quite simply, the pair are something special and one of the few smattering of Djs who can lay claim to originality. With album giveaways on the evening for the Glimmers new mix/studio album lined up, Their appearance already bears all the hallmarks of a classic.

Next up are the Gallic oriental Crusaders Technasia, a pairing that has added an element of zest and panache to an area of techno normally focused on brutality. The duo of Charles Siegling and Amil Khan have managed to set themselves apart in Techno through their frenetic records which somehow manage to combine the allure of the far east with the charm of France. The whimsical vocals of the heavily accented Siegling often feature, alongside sweeping chords, rolling basslines and pulsating flourishes, a formula that has seen the duo receive fervent support from the likes of Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke and John Selway. But the music tells only half the story, the two have been instrumental in setting up the dance scene in Asia, laying the foundations for a club scene which boats world class clubs like Womb and Zouk, as well as some of the most intense clubbers across the globe. They’ve also pushed music from the likes of Joris Voorn, Renato Cohen and Steve Rachmad into the limelight through their Sino imprint, not to mention keeping the Detroit aesthetic of techno alive and adding to it with truly cosmopolitan touches. Legends within the scene, Firefly is proud to welcome them to the fold for a scintillating DJ performance.

In support are Firefly’s traditional pyrotechnic rave initiators Jeet, Ripp Off, Max Cooper and Ross Eden.
