Set in a coal mine in Katowice, Poland, Tauron Nowa Muzyka represents one of the more alluring prospects this summer for those looking to dovetail off the beaten track for their festival experience.

There's singers like Kelis (watch the video to her 'Jerk Ribs' below) and Neneh Cherry, world class underground DJs in Dixon and Ben UFO and a whole host of underground musicians and bands all playing.

We've previewed the shindig previously, but we've run down seven reasons why you should make space for Tauron in your festival summer.

Location

This year's Tauron Nowa Muzyka will take place in the industrial setting of the old Katowice coal mine, making for a unique environment. You'll be able to see live performances in old production halls and showcases in water towers - a perfect setting for the avant-garde sounds the festival is pioneering.

The Line Up

The location of Tauron means that the line up offers something different from that of the ones on these shores, so if you're looking for something diufferent form your usual festival line up this is perfect.

It's a line up curated for people who love their music but at the same time, want to discover something new. Sharing the line-up with established artists such as Kelis, Neneh Cherry and Mouse on Mars, will be exciting talents like Kelela, Nozinja, Terranova and Kolsch.

Label Showcases

The event is famous for its label support and provides unique showcases every year. This year it is the turn of the groundbreaking Hyperdub who is celebrating 10 Years in the industry with an all-star cast including Kode9 (check his recent Boiler Room below, a tribute to DJ Rashad), Laurel Halo, Cooly G and Ikonika.

Also representing will be the almighty LittleBigAgency, celebrating their 10 Year landmark with artists such as Cakes da Killa, The Field and CLARK.

Art

The gathering is much more than just a music festival, it also houses some of the most original visual artists around with specially curated exhibitions and installations. Details for this year are still tightly under wrap but we can assure you you will not be disappointed.

Food & Drink

All the food on-site is delicious, and it also includes plenty of local Polish cuisine including the Polish hot dog, Kielbasa (below), which is a mixture of pork and beef.

There is also Mizeria, a cold cucumber salad which actually tastes better than it sound, and let's not forget the delectable Polish beer, running at a lip smacking £2 a pint. There's also obviously the opportunity to explore the region and the culinary choices before or after your stay.

Excursions

Not only can you party on the summit of the site, you can also go into one of the deepest coal mines in Europe on various excursions. That's a unique twist to your festival experience...

Price

Finally, Tauron tickets are cheap. They rock in at just €36 for a 2 day pass and €43 for a 4-day pass. Plus flights to Poland are as little as £80 return so all in all, cheaper than most UK festivals plus you get a holiday out of it!
