Leaving your job to become a full-time DJ sounds good, right? That’s what Hannah Laing did. The Dundee-born selector and producer previously worked as a dental nurse, but after her 2022 set at Creamfields, things finally fell into place.

And, of course, for good reason. But while Laing’s tunes are dancefloor weapons and her sets are constantly packed out, a good chunk of her appeal is down to something natural: personality.

After a sold-out residency at Hi Ibiza and performances at Glastonbury, Creamfields and Parklife, no one would’ve batted an eyelid if her festival, Doof In The Park, was held in a lavish, overseas venue. But Laing brought the party to her hometown, where it continues to take place.

Fans take note of small details like this, and they’ve responded by helping the event sell out year after year. They’ve danced in unison time and time again to Laing’s breathtaking mix of bleeding-edge bass and euphoric trance.
