Five of the best acts at Camden Rocks

There's over 200 bands to choose from at the festival - so we've made things a little easier and picked our top five.

The self proclaimed 'rock and roll all dayer of the year', Camden Rocks boasts a 200 strong line-up playing in some of the country's most iconic venues on Saturday 4th June.

With the likes of Dingwalls, the Barfly and the Electric Ballroom playing host to some of the finest rising guitar bands in the country, and some stalwarts too, their claims may not be too far from the truth.

In previous year's the festival has witnessed the presence of The Subways, The Twang and Bullet For My Valentine amongst others. To make your crawl through Camden that bit easier, we've selected five of the best at this year's festival.

The Cribs

'The World's premier mid-fi band' bring their Yorkshire charm down south in what will no doubt be a rip roaring whistle-stop tour of their impressive back catalogue. The Cribs' fifth album For All My Sisters was arguably their most immediate yet and spawned such gems as 'Different Angle' and 'Burning For No One'.

Expect a chaotic affair when the Jarman brothers take to the Electric Ballroom stage at 9:15pm as their live shows are normally punctuated by floored microphones and airborne guitars.

The Virginmarys

The three piece from Macclesfield are one of the hottest prospects in rock music having won the award for best breakthrough act at the rock awards back in 2013.

This followed the release of their début album King Of Conflict the same year and the band have gone on to support the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age and Slash amongst others. The Virginmarys' second studio release Divides was released earlier this month and will doubtless feature heavily when the band hit Barfly's upstairs at 7pm.

Fizzy Blood

Having hit SXSW, jumped off the tour bus with The Virginmary's and set to hop back on with Allusondrugs, Fizzy Blood are navigating a super-tight schedule heading into this one.

A hectic programme can only maximise their reputation, as this Leeds five-piece continue to captivate audiences with an explosive rock  sound that's as grungey as it is positively bizarrely in places.

Last year's Feast EP punches from every direction and so should this performance at 5pm in The Hawley Arms

Yuck

Returning after three years with third record Stranger Things, Yuck have hurled themselves back into lo-fi college rock territory and we're lapping up every minute.

After re-shuffling the pack, due to Dan Blumberg's departure, they have reasserted themselves as an evolution of the band that produced their must-have debut LP. If you're as curious as us to see them plug some hazy nuggets, then head down to the Barfly at 8:15pm.

Making Monsters

After releasing their debut EP Bad Blood, everyone wants to be in Making Monsters gang. The Derry quartet have made huge strides this year, pumping airwaves with fang-glaring alt-rock that orbits lead Emma Gallagher's full-throttle vocal.

Tell all of your friends, there's a future obsession in town - playing Belushi's at 10pm.
