The heatwave has arrived - and just in time for the weekend at that! Swarms of vests and denim shorts have taken over the pavements already, and there is a serious 'buzz' in the air that can only be felt when the Gods kindly bless us with our yearly allocation of sunshine.

There really is no other place better than England when it's sunny, and you can bet we make the most of it. The capital is a great place to be this weekend, and here are a few ideas to help you  enjoy it.

East Project 1st Birthday with Russ Yallop

Relative 'new kid on the block' East Project returns to celebrate its first birthday at Shoreditch favourite CAMP (City Arts & Music Project). Headlined by none other than Crosstown Rebels' rising star Russ Yallop, who promises to bring his warm and funky flair to the East London dancefloor. Equally supported by the Johnny Mikes' unique take on dance music, as well as Rich Wills and East Project residents, this is sure to be a firing start to the weekend.

70-74 City Rd, London. 9pm-4am. £5

Oktoberfest

Spend Saturday in the 'ultimate' beer garden as Munich beer-festival Oktoberfest hits East London. With plenty of beers, bratwursts and beauties, need we say any more? Shoreditch Park, Hackney, New North Rd, Hoxton, N1 6TA. 29/09-2/10. www.london-oktoberfest.com

Postmodernism - Style & Subversion 1970-1990

In between the parks and beer gardens, pop yourself into the V&A (Victoria & Albert Museum) for a little culture to experience the art, architecture, fashion, and music in the 70's & 80's when Postmodernism reigned supreme. Characterised by clashes of colour and form, and featuring artists such as Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, Grace Jones, and New Order, this is an ideal exhibition for the art novice and nostalgic among us. Victoria & Albert Museum, Cromwell Rd, Chelsea, SW7 2RL. £4-£11. Ends 15.01.2012

Phonica Records turns 8

The record shop institution Phonica turns 8 this weekend and to celebrate is hosting a huge 3-room warehouse party at Ewer Street Warehouse. Headlined by Visionquest, Benoit & Sergio, Soulclap, Heidi, Joy Orbison, and Matthias Kaden no less, this really is the party to be at this weekend. Check back for a full review of the night coming soon... Tickets available from Skiddle.com for £20.
