Beloved music journalist and musician Nardwuar the Human Serviette has been appointed as a member to the Order of Canada. Nardwuar joins Olympians, doctors, and Indigenous leaders as among the 80 appointments for the Order of Canada, the second highest honour for merit in the country.
Governor General Mary Simon, who announced the new appointments, said in a statement, “The Order of Canada fosters a sense of pride and cohesion in our country. Every appointment celebrates not only the talent, expertise and dedication of individuals, but also the countless lives they have touched through their work, vision and contributions."
Famed for his eccentric style and extensive research, Nardwuar has interviewed countless musicians and celebrities over the years, earning praise from the likes of Pharrell Williams and Drake as one of the best interviews of their careers. Nardwuar reacted to the news on social media, dedicating the honour to his late mother, who “taught me so much about history, local independent media, and the value of research. I know that she would be, like me, overcome with joy! Doot doola doot doo … Order of ... Canada!”
