As one of the most important record labels currently operating in the UK, Hotflush continue to stride forward in exciting new directions, pushing the envelope with regards to pioneering underground dance music.
Established over ten years ago, an up and coming Paul Rose (aka Scuba) saw fit to establish his own imprint, initially designed to give a home to some of the the thrilling new sounds of a burgeoning dubstep movement. Some of the scene’s most influential records found themselves signed to Hotflush, most notable Toasty’s 'Knowledge', Search & Destroy's 'Candyfloss', and Luke.Envoy's 'Gamma', which all could be found rattling through the bass bins of discerning clubs around the UK. As time went by, the likes of post dubstep pioneers Mount Kimbie caught their break on Scuba’s imprint, with EPs ‘Maybes’ and ‘Sketch on Glass’ taking the electronic music world by storm, heralding in a completely fresh and new direction that met widespread acclaim.
Mount Kimbie - Sketch On Glass
Whilst starting as a dubstep imprint, Hotflush has always shown a penchant for refusing to be categorised. UK garage, experimental electronica, and breakstep all found homes on Scuba’s growing label. A keen sense of where underground movements were heading has always been Hotflush calling card, as names like UK Funky ambassador Roska and Detroit sleazeball Jimmy Edgar too found themselves firmly in the Hotflush camp.
George Fitzgerald - Shackled
The likes of George Fitzgerald, a name now ubiquitous in current electronic music culture had his first record released on the imprint, charting his transition from dubstep through to off kilter UK garage and now deep house. Essentially, Hotflush is one of those labels that has rarely, if ever, put a foot wrong, keeping one step ahead of the game with apparent ease.
Dense & Pika - Move Your Body Back
The 30th of November sees Selective Hearing and Abstract team up to bring some of the major Hotflush players for an unmissable label showcase that has fans of forward thinking dance music frothing at the mouth. Scuba headlines, with George Fitzgerald in tow. The legendary Paul Woolford joins them on the back of huge success with his 'Untitled' release earlier in the year. Rounding off the line up are Dense & Pika, one of the most exciting duos working at the moment. Their live, hardware wielding sets are an exhilarating, stripped back journey through the darker reaches of gritty techno, yet another example of Hotflush’s eclectic line up.
As you’d expect from Hotflush, the line up is brimming with quality, yet another fantastic night is lined up courtesy of Selective Hearing and Abstract.
