LIDO Festival has rescheduled its Maribou State performance and cancelled CMAT and Bombay Bicycle Club’s shows. The festival had planned to return to Victoria Park in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH) across three dates in June.
Originally, the Irish indie pop star was to helm the festival on Friday 12th June alongside Father John Misty and Sharon Van Etten, followed by the four piece indie rock Londoners and Metronomy on Sunday 14th. Both shows were cancelled due to the festival wanting to protect park grounds, with Victoria Park experiencing dust issues during last year’s summer drought, followed by one of the wettest winters in recent memory leading to reports advising recovery time before an event or festival. Ticket holders for either date will receive a full refund.
Organisers were keen to stress that no blame lies with the artists or London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH), noting all parties have been fully supportive of the decision. An extensive reseeding programme carried out by AEG following well-reported dust issues during last summer's drought has left the park in strong condition for community use. However, after one of the wettest winters in recent memory, advisors felt the newly restored areas needed additional recovery time before a large-scale event could be staged.
CMAT said in a statement that she was “truly devastated” by the cancellation, while Bombay Bicycle Club added that the decision was “very much out of our hands but that doesn’t change how horribly we feel about the impact on fans who have bought tickets.” In their statement, LIDO Festival said, “This decision was made solely by the event organisers, and LBTH has permitted the change to ensure the outcome best supports park users and the wider community. There is no impact on LBTH, and all financial commitments and AEG’s support for community programmes in the borough remain fully protected.”
The third show, lead by Maribou State and featuring the full support bill, has been moved to Monday 31st August. Kelis, Folamour, Theo Parrish, Moodymann, and more will join the electronic duo on the East London stage.
