A company in Paris has launched a new "virtual clubbing" app, CLVBS. The app is available now for free on iOS and Android.

Once the app is downloaded, users choose a username and create their own avatars before exploring "fully immersive virtual spaces" via a feed of “digital venues”. The venues are organised by genre tags, such as “24/7 techno warehouse”, The Grid.

Users can also “socialise” with other users.

DJs including Traumer, DJ BELUGA92, Diego Knows, Jetseb, Nesta, and the late Funk E have already performed for the app’s virtual events.

CLVBS "enables artists to generate income from their studio, bedroom, or living room - without a camera, just a soundcard and internet connection" through a pay-per-view system without advertising.

Many "events" on the app are free; however, CLVBS also features a digital ticketing system, which it believes “could help sustain the 90 per cent of European festivals and clubs currently struggling to survive.”

An excerpt on the app’s website reads: “CLVBS was born from this need: to create a vibrant bridge between the real and the digital — a space for freedom of expression, simple to use and future-facing, yet deeply rooted in the values of club culture: music, community, and presence.

“CLVBS is a new-generation immersive streaming app, where users can listen to DJ sets live or on demand in 3D environments inspired by clubs around the world… Think of it as the ‘party Sims’”.
