It has been reported that UK vinyl sales are now at an 18-year high. Revealed by the Entertainment and Retail Association (ERA), it has been shown that although online purchases and home delivery are still many shoppers pefered way to shop, physical record shops have seen an increase in their market share. With 41.2% of all records are now sold in person, over the counter.

The data has reflected in many UK stores, including HMV, the only national music retailer in Britain, which has seen a drastic recovery since 2019 with its expansion to 499 across the country.

ERA CEO Kim Bayley spoke about the reports, saying, "Record shops are proving they can compete and prosper by doubling down on vinyl and by attracting a new generation of buyers attracted by the IRL experience," said ERA CEO Kim Bayley. "Shops have reinvented themselves to become cultural hubs on the High Street, offering live performances – around 4,000 of them last year – and an immersive experience the internet cannot match."
