This weekend sees Cadenza bring together a number of on-point club brands for a musical extravaganza at Manchester's Sound Control, for a massive summer party.

Headlining the party is Robert Dietz - a firm favourite in clubs around the globe. Robert spins at his old haunt Cocoon Frankfurt, as well as touring incessantly around the world to places like Pacha, Ibiza; Dance Valley, Amsterdam; Revolver, Australia; Arma17, Moscow; and London’s ultra-hip underground Shoreditch warehouse parties. He'll also be embarking on a second south America Tour in November this year.

His records joins the dots between reductive house and techno, and he’s a star of the modern scene. We caught up with him to find out more…

Hi Robert, can you introduce your sound to those who may not know you?

Describing yourself and your sound is always quite difficult, but I would say that my sound is something between house and techno, from old to new school. It’s like warm, chunky, hypnotic and twisted grooves.

You are part of the renowned Cadenza family – what is that like? How did that happen?

It's indeed a big pleasure to be part of the label and booking agency of Cadenza, the philosophy, the success and the movement of this brand. It happened when I met Luciano and his manager 2009 during one of the Ushuaia parties in Ibiza and I just couldn’t refuse the offer.

Are there any new DJs or producers that we should be looking out for?

Two DJs and producers you should really look out for are Daniel Stefanik from Leipzig and Javier Viudez from London. Both are always present in my playlists. Their productions are very versatile and interesting, something really special for me right now. But as well, all the New York new kids like Tales Of Us or Soulclap are the new stars of the scene. Big fan…

You get to play all over the world. Can you name one city or venue that you love playing and why.

There are plenty of cities and venues I love to play, in Europe or worldwide. It’s really difficult to just name one of them, but one of my favourite countries is definitely the UK. I love the energy of the crowd there.

Your album is on its way. How do you approach making a track? What are the ingredients to a happily finished track?

To be honest, I rescheduled my album plans, as I really want to take time for that. I don’t want to do an album just to have it done... An album should tell a personal story. But in general I try to bring a wide spectrum of ingredients into my own productions, from samples to analogue sounds.

Manchester looks forward to a Cadenza bank holiday party – why is this the party that people should attend?

Well, because the live act of Frivolous is the hottest shit at the moment and it's very impressive how and with what he’s performing on stage. And maybe I’ll be able as well to play some interesting tunes... let's see!

What’s in store for you this year?

I will definitely work on some EPs for different labels, as I didn’t spend so much time in the studio during the last year. Recently I just finished my next Cadenza release, which will be out in early September.
