Brussels-based electronic musician and Tresor resident Killian Vaissade, aka UFO95, has announced his latest album: A Brutalist Dystopian Society, Part 2. A record that melds cutting-edge production, concrete monuments to a bygone era, and retro radiophonics into a sharply vivid, dark techno-laden listening experience. It releases on February 6th via MORD.
Inspired by monolithic brutalist architecture, the Frenchman mirrors its "functional, imposing and tough" essence in the music. "I’m drawn to the minimalism, the weight, and the darkness it carries”, he comments. “I tried to translate this aesthetic into sound - something dark, dramatic, and stripped-back to the essentials”.
If you want to hear what it has to offer early, UFO95 has also released an album preview mix on Soundcloud - listen below
As well as reflecting on society’s loss of faith in the architecture’s failed promise of a better life, UFO95 uses the album to address brutality in general; tapping into techno’s ‘party-for-your-right-to-fight’ protest music essence, dismayed, as many people are, with “war, repression, corruption and prejudice”.
A leading new light in the underground, UFO95 has gained renown as a masterful producer, whose tracks shine through in the densely populated world of club-focused techno, gaining releases on Tresor, WSNWG, Mord, and TSSRCT, which he runs alongside Hadone.
The album announcement also comes in tandem with him kicking off a World Tour, where UFO95 will be playing across Canada, the USA, South America, the UK, and much of Europe. Full dates below.
