The meet up is essentially just a free for all open night to anyone. For one evening they take over the top balcony area of the greatly diverse community venue Cafe INDIEpendent.

Statement from Scunthorpe LGBT:

We have had such a great response, When we set up the invite to join us and create a community in a safe environment where LGBT & friends can meet safely and feel relaxed to be who they are.

In attendance we have over the 2 previous meets hit an audience of age ranges 14 to 50?s. When we first started this we didn?t know what to expect or what people would think of it, it was a risk that know one would turn up and it would be us sat with a coffee but nothing ventured nothing gained and it became clear after only 2 meets there was a clear demand for this type of community support.

It?s great to also say both times the Grimsby Pride team have come along and shown their support along with parents of the younger LGBT, local agencies and members of the Humberside police.

It?s fantastic that we get non LGBT coming to show their support as we don?t wish to alienate any sexuality. Guardians or people curious about LGBT have found our group night somewhat helpful to be able to speak to the local LGBT and in effect support each other with free speech and advice. Know one has to sit where they don?t want or speak to anyone they don?t wish to. There are no group circle discussions as the word support group might have given you that stigma.

John Leggott college have been very supportive by informing their students about the meet. It?s so great to see people make new friends or relax with old friends.

When on first arrival seeing a scared young person walk in to when they leave smiling having made some new friends it makes giving up our free time worthwhile.

On Wednesday the group are hoping to sort out some sort of entertainment perhaps in the form of a live busker, but anyone wanting to jam is very welcome just bring an instrument.
Also they should hopefully have the optional photo shoot, if any budding photographers want to have ago at taking some shots please get in touch via scunnylgbts@gmail.com. The photo shoot will be used to promote the group just to show people who are maybe a bit worried about what it?s like and whose there. It gives some sense of familiarity when turning up for the first time.

PLEASE NOTE YOU WILL NOT BE PHOTOGRAPHED UNLESS YOU HAVE AGREED TO TAKE PART IN THE SHOOT ON THE NIGHT. WE RESPECT YOUR PRIVACY.
