A TRIBUTE band got a killer shock when the drummer from the real act got on stage with them.
Ronnie Vannucci Jr, the drummer from hit rock band The Killers, caused a bit of a Hot Fuss when he joined tribute group The Fillers for an impromptu performance. The band was performing at a private party at Ascot venue Jagz in Station Hill and had no idea one of their idols was in the room.
Lead singer Trevor Hurley said: "The first I knew about it was when our bassist came back stage and said Ronnie Vannucci Jr had entered the building. Our drummer found it slightly scary because Ronnie is a pretty good drummer.
"We didn't know if we'd spot him but then he burst in backstage shouting âwhere is the band, where are the women?'"
The party, held on Thursday, October 30, was celebrating the 50th birthday of Derek Walkgate, who works for HMV and knows Mr Vannucci. Americans The Killers were in the UK promoting their latest album Day And Age, and were supposed to be on Jonathan Ross's BBC1 chat show. But when it was cancelled after Mr Ross was suspended for making prank calls to actor Andrew Sachs Mr Vannucci went to Ascot to celebrate Mr Walkgate's birthday and decided to join The Fillers on stage for their performance of All These Things That I've Done.
Mr Hurley said: "Ronnie is a fantastic bloke. He's really nice and it was amazing when he came on stage with us."
"Our drummer, John Balls, did get relegated to holding the video camera but he was more than happy to study Mr Vannucci in close detail."
To round off a great evening for the group, who hail from Bury St Edmonds, Mr Vannucci invited them to The Killers' special gig that took place at The Royal Albert Hall on Monday, last week. Mr Hurley said: "He gave us backstage passes and we went to the aftershow party. They knew who we were and they'd seen us on youtube. All of the band were really nice and Ronnie is just a complete gentleman."
