Once, twice, three times a guy!

Local performer Steve Bingham has been lucky enough to play some great leading roles on the local musical theatre circuit. Many actors only get the opportunity to perform a particular lead role once in a lifetime.

However this June, Steve is reprising a role that hes performed not just once but twice before, at the ages of 22, 32 and now 42, the role of Sky Masterson in the hit Broadway musical Guys and Dolls presented by Coventry Musical Theatre Society.

Sky is a fantastic part to play says Steve and he has a really strong character progression through the show. He starts off as a gambler and coldhearted womanizer, taking advantage of a woman to win a bet and ends up falling in love with her. He also has some great songs to sing and some great comedy moments.

Guys and Dolls" is a Broadway musical based on characters and situations from Damon Runyon's "Broadway Stories." It is a double love story and a musical comedy with all the lovable Runyon characters such as Harry the Horse and Nicely Nicely Johnson. It is also a story of good and bad and a lighthearted view of the New York underworld in the early 20th century.

Coventry Musical Theatre Society is delighted to be performing once again at the citys Belgrade Theatre. Guys and Dolls will be the fourth musical they have staged there since the closure of the College Theatre in 2008. Society chairman Terry Bright is excited about the prospect of bringing this extremely popular show to the Belgrade. He adds:

We are fortunate to have such a fantastic theatre in the city which can offer us the facilities to stage these big Broadway musicals. The theatre staff look after us very well and help us accommodate a company in excess of eighty actors, musicians and technicians. Whilst we are an amateur theatre company, we employ a professional production team to stage the shows for us and their high production values ensure we deliver a very professional production to our loyal audience.

Guys and Dolls will perform on the Main Stage at the Belgrade Theatre from Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd June, nightly at 7.45pm with matinees on Thursday 21st at 3pm and Saturday 23rd at 2.30pm.
