Mrs Santa, an Elf and a Reindeer....must be the Theorford Hotel Imagine the scene?..bleak mid-winter?..rain thrashing?..wind howling??a blanket of cloud hiding what should have been a clear December full moon night?..and the camel (well it was a Citroen Xsara) making its way through the Cheshire country side?..or as it was tonight the silent streets of Orford Village. So what were we doing out in such weather you may ask??? Well a little elf had let slip that Mrs Santa was popping into the Orford Hotel checking out the area with Santa?s list of Naughty and Nice. So with Camera in hand and family in tow?.trusty modern day camel for transport?.we braved the weather to catch Mrs Santa in the act of dishing out pre-Christmas presents to girls and boys both young and not so young?.but always nice no naughty in sight. Camel parked?.the four soaked travellers stepped through the doors?..bearing the gifts of wet foot prints everywhere?.but immediately through the door we were meet with welcoming cheer by the landlord Chris and his Good Lady Tracy?..and there was definitely room at this inn on the night. So kids to the waiting room and me off to meet up with Mrs Santa, her Elf in waiting Jackie and Karen the reindeer?.all antlers and no red nose in sight?.must be the cold north pole air that keeps all those nasty bugs away. Mrs Santa looked resplendent in her short off the shoulder little red cloak?..matched with traditional fur lined mini dress topped off with the old pointy hat with the fluffy fur lined bobble?.now I got to say the guys and gals at the North Pool have moved with the times?.once that bobble would have been fur but these days with all the environmental restrictions Santa has gone all faux fur?.they even let the reindeers wear the old human outfits?.Karen looking fetching in her antlers and dress fit. Now you just know Mrs Santa means business when she?s got the big red gift wrapped boxes on the tables in front of her?.not for the boys and girls as you may think but instead to give something for Elf Jackie to hide away behind?..too shy she hides?hides hides shy she hides?.and there I go murdering another 80?s classic. So as the frosty wind made moan outside the inn?..inside all the little children paraded towards Mrs Santa?..some of them getting to climb on to her lap and others being as shy as a Christmas Elf?.Each was presented with a little memento of the Mrs Santa Experience and a bag of Reindeer food?.which young David Appleton explained to his lad?.you put this on the lawn Christmas eve and it sends out a blue glow that the reindeers get to home in on?..pretty sure he was getting confused with the Bat Signal but hey got to keep the faith in flying reindeer up somehow?..wouldn?t want them to be privatised out now would we?..Santa arriving in a DHL truck just isn?t Christmas. Even the big kids got their reindeer food?.to go with their embarrassed faces and insistence that ?No Dad I don?t want to??.ha?.like that makes a difference?.funny how they never want to sit on Mrs Santa?s lap but are keen to take the gift wrapped candy. And so with the children all aglow?.mince pies and Christmas cake was abound?.and every one retired to the lounge so Mrs Claus, Jackie the Elf and Karen the reindeer could depart undetected into the ever darkening skies above Warrington?..and I could have sworn as the sound of hoofs resounded above the moans of the winter storm?..a little voice squeaking into the night?.on Karen?on Cupid?.on Dasher?..go Comet and Dancer?..on Vixen?.on Prancer?.on Donner and Blitzen ?..Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!!!! Yet another good night at the Orford?..and a big thank you to the team for helping to keep the dreams of toddlers alive for just that little bit longer?.thank you and a Merry Christmas to you all
