Kneecap have announced that they will join a convoy delivering aid to Cuba next week. The Irish trio wrote that they were “mobilizing to Cuba” in a statement on social media, as they are set to join the Nuestra América Convoy as the Caribbean island faces energy shortages and economic uncertainty.
In their statement, the group criticised the Trump administration for “strangling the island, cutting off fuel, flights, and critical supplies for survival.” and stated, “It’s time to break the siege — and stand up for Cuba, as they have stood up for us.” The statement quoted Ernesto Guevara Lynch, son of Che Guevara, which referenced Irish rebels of the past. Describing itself as “an international coalition of individuals and organisations dedicated to delivering critical humanitarian aid to the Cuban people”, Nuestra América plans to converge in Havana on Saturday 21st March.
Yesterday, it was announced that Kneecap member Mo Charra would not face a new terror charge, with the UK government’s appeal to overturn the London High Court’s original decision to throw out the terror charge was rejected. The group also announced their second album, Fenian, in January which is scheduled for release in April.
