Never a band to take a traditional route, eclectic alt-rock heroes The Flaming Lips are to release their next EP on a USB stick encased within an edible jelly skull. Of course.
Due for release in April, the three-track EP sees the band breaking with the normal album-based cycle, by releasing songs as and when they’re ready.
And perhaps (just perhaps) more unusual, is the band’s choice of a jelly skull in which to package the new release.
Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne told Mashable, "We'd made this life-size, 7lb Gummy Bear skull that has a Gummy Bear brain embedded in it as well. Inside the brain is a USB Flash drive that is going to carry the next three songs that we release in April.”
The Flaming Lips have just been announced to appear live at Jodrell Bank in Cheshire on July 2nd, performing under the world famous Lovell Telescope. Tickets are now on sale for £35. Support comes from British Sea Power and OK Go.
