DJ FLAVOURS AKA NEIL RUMNEY:

Neil?s production career began in 1992 when his first alias NRG was born. A mix-tape DJ originally into hip-hop and breaks, was lured into the nocturnal world of the UK rave scene. Instantly latching onto this crazy sound, Neil?s take on it was to take him and the music on an unforgettable journey. Comparisons to The Prodigy were often made to Neil's early sound.

Amazing highs and lows followed which left the legacy of some of the rave scene?s most classic anthems, and some hard business lessons learned along the way. As a pirate radio DJ Neil signed to the infamous Chill Records that eventually went bust. Through Chill Neil released the huge anthem ?I Need Your Lovin? which sampled the Korgis ?Everybody?s Gotta Learn Sometime?. This was licensed to more than 50 labels worldwide. Also followed ?Never Lost His Hardcore?, a hard-house anthem to this day, which saw success on classic Belgium imprint R&S Records and later on Tidy Trax in the UK.

After parting with Chill, Neil?s own label Ruff on Wax was born, with releases including Liquid Crystal. The 12"?s from this label are some of the most sought after collectibles from hardcore connoisseurs. Also teaming up with Manchester DJ Paul Landon, their new label Smokin Beats was formed in 1993.

With Paul, Neil notched up a further 50 or so releases which won critical acclaim, and represented at the very start of the UK garage scene. ?Jazz House? was considered a seminal track on the scene, and ?Dreams? is even now considered to be the scene's main anthem. Reaching number 21 in the UK top 40 charts, Dreams was an A list Radio 1 player on heavy daytime rotation. Remixes offers flooded in, with work on tracks from Frankie Knuckles, Roger Sanchez, Jamelia, Beenie Man, Jocelyn Brown, First Choice, Gibson Brothers and Back Street Boys to name but a few! With a successful artist album, Roger Sanchez offered his services in mixing the Smokin Beats album CD, and played a storming set at the Smokin Beats album launch party at The End in London?s West End.

Neil?s love of other sounds, and desire to diversify, saw the birth of a string of quirky aliases to express the different styles of house music he was feeling through the nineties. Summer Junkies, Fire Trax, Trotters Independent Traders, DJ Flavours all enjoyed cult status and change hands for crazy bucks on eBay!

Summer Junkies enjoyed a remix from Jason Nevins, and DJ Flavours went a step further to enjoy a Number 19 hit in the UK top 40 charts with ?Your Caress? due a re-release on AATW/BMG in the UK.

The Trotters? sound was to influence many to produce similar styles, and help to fuel the Bassline scene, that after a few years has now enjoyed great chart success in the UK.

Neil?s alias Zoom & DBX ? since shortened to just DBX, saw Neil write the classic, ?Comin Again? which was huge on the UK garage scene and incredible club/radio support followed from Spoonie and the Dreem Teem, EZ and Tuff Jam.

It?s success saw remix offers flood in for Neil, working with tracks such as ED Case?s ?Something in your Eyes?, Bel Biv Devoe?s RnB Classic ?Poison? and Elizabeth Troy?s follow up to ?Crazy Love? ? ?Minus 10 degrees?. This remix commission from Talkin? Loud, so impressed label boss Gilles Peterson, Neil was offered the chance to create an original breaks track for the UK horror movie ?Long Time Dead?. His creation - DBX ?The Theme? is a sinister stormer of a track, and a stand-out track on the release.

Neil?s Drum & Bass Pseudonym Soultek saw a remix of Robert Owen?s ?Bright? and a release on UB40?s imprint Maximum Boost alongside DJ Swan E
