Rock Open Ready For The Finals Posted on October 21, 2013 by scunthorpenights The recent fuss over Rock Open seems to have kicked up some interest in the event and most of the acts on Saturday night played to a packed room, the audience had to squash up to front of stage to fit more people into the back of the room. ChrisCooperBand ChrisCooperBand We spoke to one of the organisers of the event over the rumours of the event being fixed. Everyone has their own personal opinion about Rock Open and the way in which it is judged. There are some firm favourites in the running for top spot but each and every one of the acts who made it through deserve it. Even the acts that didn?t make it through put on fantastic performances. Hats off to the solos who entered as to enter such an established competition on your own head to head with the big bands is a very scary and daunting prospect but to even enter and try is a brave thing to do. I have tried to attend a couple of the heats this year and intend to make the final. The judges for this final seem to be looking pretty good, these people seem to know what they are on about and I will openly admit I have beleived in past years that not always the best band was chosen to win but that is also a matter of opinion and this year any of the guys in the final I would be happy to see win. We all have our favourite?s as do I but at the end of the day it?s down to skill, talent, sound and stage presence, so who can deliver on the night? We shall see. Good Luck to all bands/acts who have entered this year and we wish you every success in the future. We have to talk about the little problem caused by local media posting a name, in a quote from a band about one of the solo acts. The young man mentioned has a brilliant voice and whilst a soloist not being everyone?s cup of tea he did a great job and even gave some attitude. I spoke to him after the show and he was pleased for the bands who got through, also the advice given to him by myself and others was his voice would ideally be to its full potential in a band, so if anyone is looking to start a band get in touch with Ashley Palmer. All the acts on saturday when I attended put on a great performance. Some really great vocals from the act Joe & Melv which were very impressive. ChrisCooperBand performed a new track of theirs which seemed to go down well. Hawk of Fury finished their set playing guitar on their managers head in the crowd. It?s really great to see so much talent and enthusiasm for local music once again. On behalf of the bands and sure they would like to thank everyone that came to support them. SAM_0170 So back to one of the organisers we asked him for a quote about the event and what he would say to people who thought Rock Open was a fix, here is what Kev Searby said: ?Basically the competition is held to showcase live music, give local acts from the surrounding area a chance to perform, develop a new fan base and to forge new links with other bands. Its also their to promote the Imp too as the venue deserves support. The Rock Open is a Non Profit organisation. We rely heavily on local business to help donate prizes in return for promotions, we also rely heavily on the goodwill of people like Mike Lynas, Adrian Cromack the judges and myself who all give their time to put on the show. When I was personally asked to assist in this years rock open i made it very clear from the outset how i thought the competition should be run to ensure fairness and to avoid any ?fixing? The Rock Open has always had this stigma about fixing the winners. I however believe that this is born from the upset of bands and their fans not progressing ? some times its easier to say ?its a fix? rather than we didn?t play well enough!? So it?s set to be an exciting battle for a new Rock Open 2013 winner.
