The forty-second edition of the annual BRIT Awards, one of the industry's most prestigious award ceremonies, takes place this evening (Tuesday 8th February) at what is set to be a packed-out and atmospheric O2 Arena in London.

Promoting its first in-person event since the pandemic began back in 2020, tonight's highly anticipated show advances on from last years government-backed pilot instalment and is set to feature an array of live performances from some of Britains biggest talents.

Amongst those set to perform and on the esteemed list of nominees are the likes of internationally renowned singer-songwriter, Adele,  previous award-winner, Dave, Ed Sheeran, Sam Fender, Liam Gallagher, Holly Humberstone, Coldplay, Self Esteem and leading London-based rapper, Little Simz, to name a select few.

Making her first appearance at the BRIT's in more than six years, the undisputed heartbreak Queen, Adele will have the thousands of fans in attendance enchanted, with breathtaking live renditions of tracks coming from her latest record-breaking album - 30. The LP, which became the fastest selling album of 2021 both here in the UK and over in the states upon its release, has received a nod for this year's 'Album of the Year' award and is up against releases from the likes of Dave with We're All Alone In This Together, Ed Sheeran with = (Equals), and the 'Tyneside troubadour', Sam Fender with his sophomore effort, Seventeen Going Under.

The list of nominees for this evening's event includes more women or female-fronted groups than have previously been seen over the past ten years of the BRIT's. A very encouraging statistic which shows the recent scrapping of gender-based award categories, such as the 'Best Female' or 'Best Male Artist of the Year', has in fact been beneficial to the awards.

Speaking about the removal of gender-based awards, called for by artists such as Sam Smith and Will Young, the BRITS said it aimed to make the ceremony as 'inclusive and relevant as possible', and would help to include those musicians who identify as non-binary.

Watch the BRIT Awards 2022 live this evening from 7 pm, hosted by comedian Mo Gilligan, on ITV, Youtube and across social media sites.
