Formed by award winning vocalist Zoë Gilby and multi instrumentalist Andy Champion as a studio project during the 2020 lockdown, Living in Shadows released their eponymously titled debut album to critical acclaim.
“(Living In Shadows) scores highly for its strikingly distinctive sound-world, a multi-layered, mash-up of alt pop, prog and jazz which scrambles musical categories in rich and fascinating ways.“ (4 Stars) - Jazzwise (UK)
“Evoking a newfound sense of development and journey, the sound is bright and alive with motion and tone, presenting a revitalized path for enthusiasts. “For The Day,” from Living In Shadows, has arrived just in time.” - Music Interview Magazine (USA)
“(Living in Shadows) immerses us in music that skilfully combines several facets of musical styles: jazz, English pop and progressive rock… all interpreted with a lot of warmth and a beautiful technical expertise.” - (4.5 stars) Prog Critique (FR)
In 2024 Living in Shadows released their follow up album ‘Neon Burning’ on Lamplight Social Records. This release saw a development in their original identity, building confidence in a more progressive sound.
“The music here is an often passionately complex mix that produces a fusion dusted alternative melodic prog. Everything a prog lover could want... If you’re looking for something innovative in the cross-over prog area then start here.” - 9/10 DPRP (NL)
“Neon Burning has a profound depth and a distinct sound… the second offering from Living In Shadows is truly limitless.” - Beat Magazine (AUS)
“(Living in Shadows) know how to pen an arresting melody and ‘Neon Burning’ is teaming with them… this is a release that is packing gold.” - The Crack (UK)
That same year, following the second album, Living in Shadows expanded to a five piece. Fronted by Zoë Gilby with Andy Champion on bass and synths; the new lineup also features Mark Williams on guitar, Ben Lawrence on keyboards and John Bradford on drums.
