Rescue Rooms has been a fixture of Nottingham’s live music scene since 2003, seeing many generations of revellers come and go in search of a top night out. While it’s known for its gigs – you’ve probably been to a few – the venue does do some belting club nights. Fridays are for Fandom, a themed club night where you can hear all your favourite pop anthems from a range of icons and eras. On Saturdays, it’s Romance. Here, you’ll find all the best indie anthems and 2-for-1 drink deals. Finally, Tuesdays are for Pressure. And no, we don’t mean work or exam pressure. We mean Nottingham’s original indie night, which plays classic and new tunes, has plenty of drink deals and importantly, is completely free to enter. What more could you ask for, really?

Next up, another historic Nottingham venue: Rock City. It’s been open since 1980, and like Rescue Rooms, it’s known for its gigs. But if you fancy a late one and maybe one too many double vodkas, Rock City’s club line-up is solid. Tuned is the main student night on Thursdays, with 2-for-1 drinks, music across three rooms and a silent disco. On Friday, you’ve got Get Lucky, with dance, pop, drum and bass, hip-hop and r&b. On Saturday, it’s Rebel Rebel, which pretty much plays everything. You’ll hear pop, dance, rock and metal across the three rooms.

The Cell looks like something from a sci-fi film. Lit by neon lasers and ceiling lights, it’s the type of club where you can really get lost in the music. Tabu Saturdays promises two different events across two floors. Downstairs, you’ve got bassline, garage and house pumping from a Funktion-One soundsystem, and upstairs, you’ve got feel-good pop anthems. Sundays at The Cell are worth a look, too. Electronic music, 2-for-1 drinks before midnight and free entry before 11:30pm? You can’t really go wrong. Just make sure you don’t miss that Monday morning lecture, though…

Just last year, for example, the likes of 4am Kru, Soul Mass Transit System, Luke Una and Bullet Tooth graced the decks. We could name more, but we’d be here all day. Each weekend, you’ll find club nights that cover all shades of electronic music. One Friday night, it might be drum and bass. On Saturday, it might be the deepest bassline. It’s got two rooms, both fitted with Funktion-One sound systems. So, expect crystal clear sound and great vibes.
