Essential Listening: House and Techno

The Edge - Low Steppa

Low Steppa, a name we’re sure any house fan will be familiar with, dropped this colourful track the Friday just gone. Known for capturing the ears and hearts of those who live and breathe house music as he does, Steppa’s returned with a bass-heavy one to make you feel the groove deep in your bones.

This track, with a hint of nostalgia, sounds exactly like a sunny holiday of chaos. It’ll be perfect for those summer 2024 festivals we’re itching to get back to as well as Ibiza pool parties.

Essential Listening: Indie and Alternative

ATM - O.

If you’ve recently felt that much indie and alternative music sounds the same, O. is here with their brand new weird and wonderful track ATM to make you think again. With a ferocious saxophone riff that sounds like a bee buzzing around your ear, the track explodes, exuding pure darkness before cloaking you in a deep sense of unease as it strips everything back and the sax continues to scream on, drenched in reverb.

This one’s taken from their SLICE EP, which came out last Friday. If you love experimental music that effortlessly plays on your emotions, check this one out. Or just grab your tickets to see them live in action below.

Beautiful Lies - B-complex (Mandidextrous remix)

Mandidextrous, a soon-to-be legend of the drum and bass scene, has dropped yet another banger. A hot name in the underground who’s since risen to some of the biggest stages including Let It Roll, Boomtown, and The Warehouse Project, their pioneering sound is recognised by its euphoric qualities, which is evident on this remix of B-complex’s Beautiful Lies.

Released on Hospital Records, Mandidextrous, an accomplished producer of many genres, has melded a few sounds together here, sticking some distorted hardcore energy and percussion in there, creating a whole new beast altogether. But it still maintains that DnB energy from start to finish.

HATE 2 SEE YOU GO - CJ Fly & Stoic

HATE 2 SEE U GO is the aptly named final track on CJ Fly and Stoic’s album, PIRANHA. You may have heard singles like QUASIMODO, LOVE ME 4 ME, and BUMBO, and, well, if you liked them, we think you’ll love this one, even if it’s much chiller.

With features from Mick Jenkins, AMARAH, Nyck Caution, Lord Apex, and Blvck Svm, there’s sure to be a track on this album you’ll enjoy. Especially with the range of influences present, meaning you’ve got both bangers, jazz rap cuts, and some lofi vibes.
