Undoubtedly one of the most hyped newcomers to the stadium house fold, Dyro has in recent times captured the imagination of the dance music world. At 19 he had already gained the attention of industry leadrers, and now at just 21 his career continues to accelerate through cutting edge productions and blistering DJ sets. We catch up with the dance music maverick ahead of his appearance at Manchester's 'Bitch' later this month.

Dyro's Special 100 Minute Mix

What music did you listen to growing up? What made you want to start producing?

Well I am still really young, only 21, so I grew up listening to music from a lot of my heroes who I am now lucky enough to share the stage with. Big influences were Dutch legends like Tiësto and Armin. Those guys are such a big part of our culture and much like DJing it was something which I was always surrounded by growing up.

Tell us how you ended up getting noticed by Hardwell.

Like most young producers I made a lot of tracks before I ever sent anything out. I was in contact with some fellow producers and through sharing my music with these guys, via one of them, one of my tracks fell into the hands of Hardwell. He took it and played it at Electric Zoo Festival, New York, I didn’t even know!! Then when Hardwell’s label manager got back in touch saying they were feeling it and wanted to release it, well I was blown away!

How did it feel to gain support from the big guys in the industry, like David Guetta, Afrojack, and Tiesto?

Surreal. You have to understand since I was a little kid in Holland people like Tiësto are household names. I think most people’s grandparents know who Tiësto is he is that famous in The Netherlands haha. So for him and others like Afrojack and David Guetta to be playing my tracks out and supporting them, I really couldn’t get a bigger endorsement. The best thing is that once you have put out music on that level - it doubles my determination to reach those standards again and keep delivering big tracks!

Your touring schedule is pretty hectic this year. How do you cope with life on the road?

I am still relatively new to the touring so I still find it exciting. I am in an unbelievably privileged position. I am 21 and traveling the world on the back of my music. I could never have imagined that when I was starting out. It would be easy to moan about the travel or spending loads of time in airports but I would rather focus on the positives. I get to see places I would never have seen otherwise and meet people that if it wasn’t for the job I do I would never meet. Not many people get this opportunity and I am going to make sure I embrace every moment…. Even the bits others may describe as the negatives!

Hardwell & Dyro feat. Bright Lights - Never Say Goodbye

Where are you particularly looking forward to playing this summer?

I have some really exciting Ibiza dates coming up. That’s going to be special as Ibiza is the dance music Mecca so I am definitely going to be brining some extra special tracks with me for those shows. I am also luck enough to be playing some of Europe’s biggest festivals which I cant wait for. I will be playing out my latest productions and remixes like my collab with Tiesto called ‘Paradise’ and the remix I just finished for Axwell’s new single ‘Center Of The Universe.’ Both of these have gone down really well with my fans so I am pleased.

We’re excited about your appearance at Bitch in Manchester! What can we look forward to there? How do you find the British crowd?

I really enjoy playing to a British crowd, they are always ready to party and know all the tunes which is great. There is nothing better than having the lyrics to your tracks sung back at you! And I know the Manchester crowd is especially up for it as I played here with Hardwell and Dannic at Sankeys some months ago.

Top 5 favourite tracks at the moment?

Dannic - Rocker
Hardwell & Dyro feat. Bright Lights - Never Say Goodbye
Tiesto & Dyro - Paradise
Axwell - Center of the universe (Dyro Remix)
Venaccio vs Dada Life - So young So dirty (Dyro Mashup)

Which do you prefer, producing, remixing or DJing?

I enjoy different elements of each at different moments. I will always consider myself as a music producer first and foremost. But I love Djing, I love playing in front of a crowd that seems to connect with your music. That is something which nothing else compares to.

Having achieved so much at a relatively young age, what advice would you give to other young people getting into producing?

Well the biggest thing is that you need to dedicate time to it. It isn’t something you will learn over night and it is something you will only ever improve at. Some of the best advice given to me was by my buddy Hardwell who said never share anything unless you are a 100% happy with it. That has been my mantra for some time.

What does the future hold for Dyro?

I have a lot of exciting new projects I have been working on! More solo efforts and some big tour dates as well as some really interesting colabs. I have to keep most of it under wraps right now.

Finally, what would you be if you weren’t a producer/DJ?

Probably studying it’s what most of my friends are doing right now so I imagined id be at university….. I think I am enjoying what I am doing right now a little more than if I was doing that haha.
