The Tin Coventry

Helen McCookerybook, John Peel favourite and bass player and lead singer with punk bands The Chefs and later Helen and the Horns, is appearing twice in Warwickshire in May 2019. Firstly, in Coventry with its rich musical heritage of British Two Tone from the last 1970s including The Specials, The Selector and The Beat. Coventry’s Two Tone, with its ethos of transcending and defusing the racial tensions of the day, had the whole country jumping to a beat that fused traditional ska with musical elements of the Punk Rock movement that Helen was part of, down on the South Coast of England.

Helen is appearing in Coventry on Friday 10th May at The Tin at the Coal Vaults, 1-4, The Canal Basin, St Nicholas St, Coventry CV1 4LY (www.thetinmusicandarts.org.uk) 02476 230 699 at 8:00 p.m. The Tin at the Coal Vaults is a unique venue, set in a former coal storage building in Coventry’s 18th century canal basin, so McCookerybook’s witty yet pensive lyrics and characteristically counter-intuitive upbeat melodies, will be beautifully off-set by the vaults‘ impressive ambience.
